Penn State Receives Verbal Commitment from Butterflyer Branko Kosanovich

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Branko Kosanovich (2020) of Wexford, Pennsylvania has verbally committed to Penn State University in the class of 2024. Ben Doyle and Jacob Oberle have also indicated their intent to swim for the Nittany Lions next fall. Kosanovich, a senior at North Allegheny Senior High School, was a two-time state champion at the 2019 Pennsylvania PIAA Boys 3A Swimming & Diving Championships. Individually, he placed 5th in the 100 fly (48.71) and 11th in the 100 free (45.47) and further contributed to North Allegheny’s state title with legs on two winning relays: 4×50 free (20.98) and 4×100 free (44.89 split).

Kosanovich swims year-round for Allegheny North Swim Club out of Wexford. He was previous with West Swim Club under the coaching of Scott Erdman. Kosanovich competed at Winter Juniors East in the 100 fly and 200 fly, earning a PB in the latter with a 2.1-second year-over-year time drop. This summer he swam at Geneva Futures and finished 7th in the 100 fly going 56.05. He also competed in the 50 free, 100 free, and 200 fly.

Best times (flat start):

  • 50y free: 20.98
  • 100y free: 45.47
  • 100y fly: 48.69
  • 100m fly: 56.00

Best SCY relay splits:

  • 50y free: 20.41
  • 100y free: 44.89
  • 50y fly: 21.98

Kosanovich will overlap one year with the Nittany Lions’ top sprinter from 2018-19, junior Gabe Costano. Costano finished 3rd in the 50 free (19.20) at 2019 B1G Championships. His classmate William Roberson was 8th (19.75). Castano was also an A-finalist in the 100 free (8th with 43.29). PSU’s top butterflyers from last season, Juliusz Gosieniecki and Zach Zwijacz, will be a senior and a junior when Kosanovich begins.

“I’d like to thank my teammates, coaches, and friends for helping me to where I am right now. I would also like to thank my family for everything they have given me.”
