The Energy Standard team has announced its roster for the opening two weekends of the International Swimming League, bringing us to 3/4 announced rosters.
Energy Standard will have almost all of its star power in Indianapolis this weekend. Daiya Seto is the main absence, and he also won’t compete in Naples next weekend.
The only team in Group A that has not yet released a roster is the Aqua Centurions.

Do the teams compete for a combined score?
They do.
There are 3 systems referred to as “points” by the ISL, and I think it’s very confusing and that they should change the names of 2 of them.
One set of points earns you money.
A whole other set of points earns your team a finish place in the meet
And a 3rd set of points is awarded based on teams’ finishes in the meet that determines the standings in the league.
It’s like pointception. A Russian nesting doll of points. Points on points on points.
let’s say one of the relays broke the world record, what that record is going to show up as next time you watch the race? By their nationalities? by the club?
At this point, it doesn’t appear that FINA will ratify any world records from ISL events.
Can a mixed-nationality relay record get ratified in general, in Fina-approved meets?
It will be by the club. I assume it will be counted as an ISL record and separate to the world records.
(And, even if FINA was ratifying World Records from this meet, these wouldn’t count – FINA Rule SW 12.4, under World Records: SW 12.4 Members of relay teams must be of the same nationality.)
but it also doesn’t make any sense to see the championship record (CR) to be faster than a world record (WR)
Based on Konstantin Grigorishin’s public comments, I don’t think that the ISL is going to put much focus on records of any kind, but especially World Records.
Therefore these penalties on poor performance were set to prevent these meets becoming a farce.
At its first seasons ISL is trying to avoid direct confrontation with FINA by interfering with swimmers’ preparation plans for the major event of the season. Especially in Olympic year.
I see Energy Standard have got Kolesnikov. Interesting to see they chose Gunes considering she isn’t exactly a great athlete now. Girev should be helpful for relays and not sure about Mary-Sophie Harvey
I think there was a serious problem for teams finding willing female IMers who can hit the standards. If you start looking through the list at the number of swimmers from Asia (who generally have declined to participate), or who have otherwise withdrawn for health reasons or other public reasons, you can see that you start getting really deep into the rankings really quickly.
I mean Gunes isn’t an awful choice for the IMs because she did make semi finals in the 200 IM at worlds. Harvey is a bit of a question mark though.
That 4×1 medley for the women is gonna be fun
