ROCHESTER, Mich. –The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams made their season debut at the annual Black and Gold meet Friday night from the Oakland Aquatic Center.
On the men’s side, the Gold team edged the Black team 56-50, while the women on the Black squad pulled away with a 68-37 win over the Gold team.
Senior Katie Colwell represented the black team with three first place finishes in the 50 freestyle (23.58), 100 freestyle (51.52) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:15.84).
Bernie Turchi swept the diving competition, earning 10 points for the Black team.
On the men’s side, Jordan Smith also earned two first place finishes in diving for the Black squad.
Redshirt freshman Christian Bart tallied two first place finishes of his own in the 100 freestyle (45.86) and the 400 medley relay (3:18.25).
The Golden Grizzlies open the regular season Friday, Oct. 11 as they welcome Milwaukee and Vanderbilt (W) beginning at 4 p.m.
Oakland will continue competition Saturday at the Golden Grizzly Relays beginning at 1 p.m.
