Sun Yang and Ye Shiwen were both nominated for the top awards in Chinese Sport 2012 Anta CCTV Sports Personality of the Year Awards Ceremony.
As reported in China Daily Sun was nominated for the Male Athlete of the Year (an award he won a year ago) and Ye was nominated for the Female Athlete of the year.
At the London Olympics Sun won the 400 and 1500 freestyle in doing so became the first male Chinese swimmer to Olympic gold. He also won a silver in the 200 freestyle in a tie with Tae Hwan Park.
Ye most recently had success at the World Short Course Championships in Istanbul where she won the 200 IM in a championship record time of 2:04.60 and finished second to British swimmer Hannah Miley in the 400 IM in a time of 4:23.33.
At the 2012 Olympics Ye won the won the 400 IM in a world record time of 4:28.43 and collected gold in the 200 IM in an Olympic record time of 2:07.57.
Ye told China Daily that, “I am very happy to be nominated as Female Athlete of the Year. I believe I will perform better in the future and hope the fans will continue to support me.”
Both should win these awards easily.
