GREENSBORO, N.C. – Notre Dame’s Zach Yeadon has been selected as the ACC Men’s Swimmer of the Week, and teammate Austin Flaute has been named Diver of the Week. On the women’s side, Virginia’s Kate Douglass has been tabbed Swimmer of the Week, and Notre Dame’s Kelly Straub has been named Diver of the Week.
Yeadon had a strong showing for the Fighting Irish in a win over Florida State. The junior from San Antonio, Texas, won all three of his races, and currently holds the fastest time in the NCAA in the 500 freestyle and the 1000 freestyle. Yeadon was also on the first-place 400 freestyle relay team with Cason Wilburn, Aaron Schultz and Sadler McKeen.
A sophomore from Centerville, Ohio, Flaute accounted for 12 of Notre Dame’s points against Florida State. The Seminole diver took first in 3-meter diving competition and placed third on the 1-meter springboard.
Douglass had a standout meet at the Trojan Swim Invite. A freshman from Pelham, New York, she placed in the top two in all seven of her races, winning four of them. Douglass took first in the 50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 200 individual medley and the 200 medley relay along with teammates Caroline Gmelich, Alexis Wenger and Morgan Hill.
Straub was key in a win over Florida State. A junior from Omaha, Nebraska, she won the 1-meter competition and took second on the 3-meter springboard.
Yeadon does not, and did not ever hold the fastest time in the country in the 500 free. He is 3rd. The hacks working the ACC site and who wrote the press release were wrong, thus his 1000 time should not have gotten him the ACC swimmer of the week award, as great as his 1000 time was.
