Practice + Pancakes: New Coaches on Full Display at IU PM Workout

FORM is swim goggles with a smart display. FORM is a sports technology company with a simple mission: to break down the barriers between what swimming is and what it could be.

After the ISL meet in Indianapolis, we couldn’t resist driving the hour down to Bloomington to see what Indiana was up to. While many of their pros were already en route to Italy getting ready to compete in the 2nd ISL meet, a handful of them were still present and training with the college team.

There were 3 main groups on this Monday afternoon: Ray Looze’s breaststroke group, Cory Chitwood’s mid group, and Jonty Skinner’s sprinters. See below for full workouts:

It’s no wonder IU is as strong as it is both collegiately and with their Pro group. They are clearly on the cutting edge of both technique and training. The amazing thing is the simplicity. Ray and his staff are not afraid to try new things and implement them. They do this not because they are new or fancy but rather because they work. Seeing the video of Ian doing the combined fly and breast is a perfect example of this. Ray uses the positives of butterfly to create a drill that pushes breaststroke to its limit. The skill work with the sprinters was also very fun to watch. The swimmer would have to overcompensate for the form of resistance… Read more »

Definitely didn’t “create” fly/breast combo. I remember doing that drill as an age group swimmer in the 90’s all the way through college.

Yeah, but Ray uses the three quadrants, so there’s that innovation.

Some fast practice times! Lazor making 30 second 50 breasts look easy and Pieroni with the 44.5 from a push is insane.

I wonder what they could do if they got up on the blocks and did it.
