VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton swimming & diving program has announced the hiring of Mike Kline as an assistant coach. He arrives from the Washington D.C. area, where he was on the staffs at George Washington and Georgetown the previous two seasons. In addition, Kline has been a head coach at the club level for three years.

For the past year, Kline was a part of the George Washington coaching staff. In February 2019, the Colonials won the men’s Atlantic 10 conference title for the third straight year and were the runner up on the women’s side. During the 2017-18 academic year, Kline was on the staff at Georgetown University.

At the club level, Kline was the head coach of the USA Swimming MAKO Swim Team from 2014-17. During that stretch, the program set 47 Team Records though three short course seasons and three long course seasons. In addition, it posted 23 individual performances in the top 16 including 10 in the top 8 at the Ohio Age Group Championship.

A 2014 graduate of Miami (Ohio), Kline was a four-year member of the Red Hawks’ swimming & diving team. In 2012, he received the program’s Joe Justice “Scout” award for being the most honorable teammate.

“We are excited to add Mike to our swimming & diving staff,” head coach Jerry Cummiskey said. “His experience as a swimmer at Miami and his time on deck at Georgetown and George Washington will bring valuable experience to our athletes. Mike’s personality and philosophy will be a great fit for the culture that we are building here at Binghamton and will help us to reach new heights with the program.”

“I am very excited to join the swimming & diving program here at Binghamton,” Kline said. “This is a great academic school like Georgetown and George Washington and there is a lot of potential for Binghamton within the America East to do very well.”

Kline joins a Bearcat staff that includes Cummiskey and diving coach Heather Colby.

Binghamton launches its 2019-20 season on Oct. 19 with a home tri meet against Siena and Niagara.

Having had the privilege to share the deck with Mike on multiple occasions as a teammate and a competitor, but most importantly a friend; I couldn’t be happier to watch him get the chance to continue growing and impacting the lives of athletes through the sport he loves! Go Mike!
