TCU Gears Up For Clash With Incarnate Word

FORT WORTH — TCU swimming and diving faces the University of the Incarnate Word at 5 p.m. on Friday inside the University Rec Center.

Last Time Out

The Horned Frogs took on SMU two weekends ago, where multiple individual wins highlighted the crosstown rivalry. Three Horned Frogs won two individual events against the Mustangs.

Noah Cumby won the 100 Free (46.02) and 200 Free (1:39.58) and contributed to the men’s 400 free relay that also took first.

Freshman Abigail Meder placed first in the 500 Free (5:03.57) and 1000 Free (10:18.17).

Another freshman, Piotr Sadlowski, finished first in the 100 Fly (49.27) and 200 Fly (1:52.08). Sadlowski also swam on the first-place 200 Medley and 400 Free relay teams.

NCAA Zone Cuts

Izzy Ashdown made NCAA qualifying scores on 1-meter (287.55) and 3-meter (306.90) against SMU. On the season, she has three zone cuts on 3-meter and two zone cuts on 1-meter.

Faith Harms-Zacharias has registered three NCAA qualifying scores on 1-meter in 2019, coming at the TYR Fall Classic, the Malibu Classic and the SMU dual meet. The freshman also earned a zone cut on 3-meter in TCU’s home opener against UT Permian Basin.

Record Holders

TCU currently has two short course record holders on its roster between Noah Cumby (100 and 200 Free) and Joao Andrade (500 Free).

The Series

Last year the Horned Frog women claimed victory over UIW, 160-137.

Women’s diving swept the one-meter and three-meter, with Connie Deighton qualifying for both NCAA Zone cuts.

Claire Munster won the 50 Free with a 24.04 and defeated Incarnate Word in the 100 Free.

Kiki Rice, another leader for TCU, won the 200 Back outright with a mark of 2:03.69.

Niqueline Rettberg, another winner, won the 1650 free with a mark of 17:04.06.

Deighton had a stellar day on the boards for the Frogs, sweeping the 1- and 3-meter dives against both Incarnate Word and North Texas. Her 1-meter score of 276.40 and 3-meter score of 287.15 are both NCAA Zone cuts.

On the men’s side, TCU fell 172-90, but dominated the men’s 200 back with Radu Duican winning with a 1:49.21, followed by Brendan Barry at 1:50.44, and Kade Knoch at 1:51.33.

Noah Cumby also took home a win, taking the men’s 100 free with a mark of 46.33.
