Liv Theil, a senior at Piux X High School in Lincoln, Nebraska, has verbally committed to swim at University of Nebraska-Omaha next fall. Her sister Caroline Theil is a sophomore on the Texas A&M women’s team this season. Liv will join Abby Kohl and Morgan Baker in the UNO class of 2024.

Theil contributed to Lincoln Pius X’s 5th-place finish at the 2019 NSAA State Championships last February with a 7th in the 500 free (5:19.04) and a 10th in the 200 free (1:58.12) as well as leadoff legs on the 4th-place 200 medley relay (28.33) and 9th-place 400 free relay (56.01).
While she has focused on the 200/500 free in high school, Theil has expanded her events in club swimming with Greater Nebraska Swim Team. After high school season, she competed at Columbia Sectionals in the 50/100/200 back, 50 breast, and 200 IM. The next week she swam at the Midwestern Swimming LSC Short Course Championships and came in 5th in the 200 IM, 7th in the 100 back, and 11th in the 200 breast. This summer, she had some big drops in the 200 back (-6 seconds to finish the summer with 2:26.02) and the 100 back (-2 seconds to go 1:07.77). She also improved her lifetime best in the 200 IM, going 2:31.05. She also dropped nearly 7 seconds in the 400 IM to go 5:20.00. When converted to SCY, those times would indicate Theil could be around 57.8/2:05 in the backstrokes and 2:10/4:42 in the IM. Theil’s converted backstroke times, in particular, would have put her at or near the top of the Mavs’ squad last year. UNO finished 3rd in the women’s meet at the 2019 Summit League Championships. Theil’s converted times would have scored in the A finals of the 100/200 back and her 200 IM would have been just at the limit of making top-16 (the Summit League only scores an A final and a B final). Her unconverted SCY 200 back time would still have made the B final.
