Maile, Mirafuentes Earn Mountain West Peak Players of the Week Awards

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Air Force’s Sefilina Maile and Wyoming’s Melissa Mirafuentes have been tabbed MW Swimming and Diving Peak Players of the Week. Maile was named swimmer of the week, while Mirafuentes garnered diver of the week.

The honor marks Maile’s second career award and Mirafuentes’ first.

SWIMMER OF THE WEEK

Sefilina Maile, Air Force

Freshman, Albuquerque, New Mexico/Volcano Vista High School

  • Placed atop the podium in all six events the freshman swam in against Grand Canyon, Idaho and New Mexico State.
  • Won the 100 free (51.65), 200 free (1:51.97) and anchored the winning 400 medley relay (3:50.50) on the first day of competition.
  • Picked up first-place finishes in the 50 free (23.90), 100 free (51.28) and anchored the victorious 200 medley relay (1:46.40) on day two.

DIVER OF THE WEEK

Melissa Mirafuentes, Wyoming

Freshman, Guadalupe, Mexico/Preparatoria 9

  • Helped lead the Cowgirls to a 202-151 victory over MW opponent Colorado State, accounting for 13 points in the win.
  • Posted a career-best 348.68 on the 3-meter dive to place first.
  • Recorded another career-best 284.40 on the 1-meter board, placing second.
