Florida High School State Champion Logan Tirheimer Commits to Auburn

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Wednesday was National Signing Day for NCAA Division I college swimming & diving programs, and high school senior Logan Tirheimer from Tampa, Florida took advantage of the opportunity to announce his commitment to Auburn University.

Tirheimer swims with Tampa Bay Aquatics and at the Tampa Preparatory School. Last week, at the Florida Class 1A State Championship meet (which is mostly for private schools and very small public schools), he was crowned the Florida State Champion in both the 50 free (20.25) and 100 free (44.46). Both swims were new lifetime bests by a significant margin, rewarding his patience to wait until his senior season to make a college decision.

Best Times in Yards:

  • 50 free – 20.25
  • 100 free – 44.46
  • 200 free – 1:42.66
  • 100 back – 51.56
  • 100 breast – 1:02.60
  • 100 fly – 53.77

Specifically, at last weekend’s state meet he dropped his best time in the 50 free from 20.99 at last year’s state meet to a 20.25; and he dropped his best time in the 100 free from a 45.99 at last year’s state meet to a 44.46 at this year’s meet.

Only 1 Auburn swimmer has been faster than his 50 freestyle this season (senior Santago Grassi in 19.86), and none have been better in the 100 free (albeit with Tirheimer’s taper times compared to Auburn’s in-season times). Slowly, but surely, the Tigers are rebuilding their once-legendary sprint group, which started with the addition of freshman Jack Armstrong, a Texas High School Record holder, to the team this season.

Auburn has a huge (and growing) class of 2020 coming in, with Tirheimer being at least the 10th announced swimmer in the group. That includes a pile of sprinters, like Ty Wingfield (20.59/45.86), Ryan Husband (20.77/44.66), Peter Makin (21.10/45.63), and Jadan Nabor (20.76/44.78). Last season, a 44.02 was Auburn’s 4th-ranked 100 freestyler (relevant for relay purposes).

Other Auburn commits in the class of 2020:

Alejandro Flores
Elliott Jones
Evan McInerny
Jadan Nabor
Michael Bonson
Peter Makin
Ryan Husband
Sam Oliver
Ty Wingfield
