The Wyoming Cowboys and Cowgirls have had a good meet through 2 days at the 2019 Mizzou Invitational in Columbia, Missouri. That includes a new School Record in the 100 fly for Brayden Love of the men’s team, swimming a 47.20, and another for Katelyn Blattner of the women’s team, who swam 4:46.99 in the 500 free.

Those swims are among almost universal best times for Dave Denniston‘s team through 2 days.

But those things have happened before, and they might happen again.

That’s unlike the synchronization that two Wyoming teammates found on Thursday, which might not ever be seen again in a pool.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • Sophomores Phoebe Browne and Andrea Niemann are roommates, training partners, and best friends.
  • Both swimmers are primarily breaststrokers.
  • Both swimmers tied in prelims of the 100 yard breaststroke on Thursday with matching lifetime bests of 1:04.41
  • Both swimmers tied again in finals with matching lifetime bests of…1:04.41.

What does it all mean? Is Wyoming using USRPT to its fullest potential? Are the best friends and roommates secretly long-lost twins who are using their twin powers? Is Mercury in retrograde? (No seriously, is Mercury in retrograde?) Touchpad malfunctions? Are the Ukrainians involved somehow?

I don’t know what it all means, but in all of the meets in all of the world, this is probably a level of order and synchronization that we might not ever see again in swimming. So have a giggle and a “huh, well how about that” with your coffee this morning, and try to recover for what should be another wild day of collegiate invite action.

Awesome! Reminds me of when in 2012 a pair of 11-12 twin boys tied in the 100m backstroke at TAGS, broke the meet record, then went on to tie for high point.

Yep. Marina García and Kim Williams tied for first in both breaststrokes in the 2017 Cal v. Stanford dual meet

Wyoming is really coming into their stride with Dave. The team is really training hard, are a close group of swimmers, and really support each other.

So happy for this Team. This is a great program and they are moving up. Keep up the great work Cowboys and Cowgirls !!!

Go Pokes !!!

This is actually the high school pool pictured. Our pool is 6 lane 25m by 6 lane 25y. We train scm meters most of the year. Working on upgrading! 🤞🏼

We had the WAC Championships hosted at Corbett pool in 1984! Having 7 teams on that pool deck was CRAZY…some of those winning times from 1984 ARE STILL POOL RECORDS!!!!! One thing I couldn’t get used to…the stands for spectators are BEHIND the glass! Great memories for sure!
