Worcester, MA – The Bulldogs capped off a great weekend with a victory at the Gompei Invitational. The Black and Gold won the three-day meet with a combined score of 6,640.
Coach Dever’s Comments
- “Both the men and women swam very well. Long meets such as this one are challenging both physically and mentally, but they stayed tough every session. The results from this meet are a great sign for what we can do at the end of the season.”
Notes and Notables
- Bryant started off the day in style with a 1-2 finish in the 100 freestyle. Erin Doruska (Ankeny, Iowa) finished first (51.24) and Reetta Kanervo (Oulu, Finland) placed second (52.30).
- The Bulldogs stuck to their winning ways with a victory in the 200 backstroke (2:01.79) by Alania Scifo (Ipswich, Great Britain).
- Alyssa DiFiore (Wethersfield, Conn.) brought home a win for the Black and Gold with a first place finish (4:56.48) and meet record in the 500 Freestyle. Sammi Grenon (Cheshire, Conn.) finished third (5:05.28) in the same event.
- The Bulldogs had another 1-2 finish by Scifo (5:00.51) and Doruska (5:07.23) in the 500 freestyle.
- In the 100 individual medley, Elin Svärd (Falun, Sweden) took first (58.41) while Heather Wong (Ramsey, N.J.) placed second (1:00.41).
- Bryant had another broken record in the 50 breaststroke with Kayleigh Canavan (Cumberland, R.I.) placing first (29.73). Wong finished third in the same event with a time of 30.40.
- The Black and Gold made another podium with Meghan Veenstra (Tyngsborough, Mass.) placing second (2:08.12) in the 200 Butterfly.
- The Bulldogs continued their weekend long relay success with 1-2 finish in the mixed 400 freestyle relay. Fukang Wong (Johor, Malaysia), Matthew Mays (St. Croix, Virgin Islands), Alyvia Beaudion (Cypress, Texas), and Alexa Rivera (Boynton Beach, Fla.) placing first (3:19.33). Andrew Allen (Bedford, N.H.), Juan Gonzalez (Al Safa, Dubai), Doruska, and Kanervo placed second (3:21.49).
- Bryant’s final broken record of the weekend came in the 400 freestyle relay. Rivera, Beaudion, Kanervo, and Doruska (3:27.43) placed first and set the meet record.
