UMBC Sweeps Week 10 America East Awards

BOSTON – UMBC took home all of this week’s awards as the men’s team brook four pool records in their win against Howard on Saturday afternoon. The men’s team took first place in 12 of the 14 swimming events and swept both diving events, en route to a 135-129 victory. The women’s team finished first in every event to win 134-120 over Howard.

Here are the weekly awards:

Female Swimmer of the Week
Sotiria Neofytou, UMBC – Sr., Back/Fly/Free, Limassol, Cyprus

  • Won the 50 yard butterfly with a time of 25.73.
  • Also swam the 100 fly leg (56.15) in the winning 400 medley relay.
  • This is Neofytou’s first #AESD Swimmer of the Week award this season.

Male Swimmer of the Week
Ilia Rattsev, UMBC – Sr., Sprint/Mid-Free

  • A part of three of the four UMBC pool records that fell as the Retrievers men’s team defeated Howard on Saturday afternoon.
  • Was a member of both the record-setting opening 400 medley relay and the closing 800 free relay.
  • His lead 200 yard-leg of 1:39.62 in the 800 free relay broke the pool record.
  • Also won the 100 yard freestyle in a time of 46.73.
  • This is Rattsev’s third #AESD Swimmer of the Week award this season.

Female Diver of the Week
Devin Gromen, UMBC – Sr., Diver, Crofton, Md.

  • Won both the 1 meter and 3 meter events with a score of 205.35 and 223.05, respectively.
  • This is Gromen’s first #AESD Diver of the Week award this season.

Male Diver of the Week
Ben Parker, UMBC – Sr., Diver, Lawrenceville, Ga.

  • Won thee 1 meter and the 3 meter events with a score of 249.15 and 279.60, respectively.
  • This is Parker’s second #AESD Diver of the Week award this season.
