VESTAL, N.Y. – Senior Olivia Santos won two individual events and anchored both first-place relay teams, highlighting Binghamton’s split against Marist in a swimming & diving dual meet on Friday afternoon at the Patricia A. Saunders Aquatic Center. The Bearcat women won the Senior Day meet 170.5-129.5 while the Marist men – which came into the day with a 9-2 dual meet record – won 195-99.

Santos swept the women’s 50 free and 100 free with times of 25.09 and 53.98 respectively. She also anchored the first-place 400 medley relay team, which won in 4:01.63, and the 200 free relay team, which recorded a winning time of 1:40.05.

Also winning a pair of events for the Bearcat women was fellow senior Rebecca Nelson. She captured the 200 breast (2:29.21) and the 200 IM (2:14.00).

Other individual winners on the women’s side included senior Sydney Atendido in the 100 breast (1:06.83), junior Kaitlyn Smolar in the 200 free (1:57.26) and freshman Audrey Pesek in the 100 fly (58.69).

Joining Santos on the 400 free relay team were Atendido, junior Erica Bachiller and freshman Manuela Matkovic. Pesek, senior Kaitlyn Lange and sophomore Belen Marriaga were the other three swimmers on the 200 free relay.

Sophomore Ryan Board won the men’s 100 breast with a time of 59.09. The Bearcat men also won the 200 free relay, with the first-place quartet including freshman Ryan Maierle, seniors Dylan VanManen and Dylan Roney as well as junior Cameron DeGuzman.

“I thought we had a good day,” head coach Jerry Cummiskey said. “Marist was a tough test for our men’s team but I thought they raced well. Our women had a great day top to bottom today and our seniors had some great wins on Senior Day, which was nice to see.”

Prior to the meet, Binghamton honored its 17 seniors – 11 on the women’s team and six on the men’s side.

The Bearcat men’s team is off until its Jan. 20 meet at St. Bonaventure. The women, meanwhile, head to Vermont for a 10 a.m. meet on Sunday.

VESTAL, New York – Marist men’s swimming & diving toppled non-conference foe Binghamton by a score of 195-103 on Friday afternoon. This is the third straight dual meet victory for the men’s team, who remains undefeated in dual meets over the past two months.

With the win, the Red Foxes improve to 9-2 overall on the season, remaining 4-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference meets. Meanwhile, Binghamton drops to 2-4 overall on the year. This was also the first home loss for the Bearcats this season.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The men’s team opened with a first-place victory in the 400-yard medley relay. The team of Sean DoranJackson KlarsfeldPavel Makarchuk, and Ahmed Sallam clocked in at 3:29.65.
  • Michael O’Donovan set the tone early for the men, picking up a victory in the first individual event of the day. He clocked in at 9:57.37 in the 100-yard freestyle.
  • Adam Kapusta was the star of the meet, finishing in first place in three events for a total of 27 points. To start the day, he notched a first-place victory in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:43.83. He then went on to win the 200-yard butterfly (1:53.41) and 200-yard back (1:53.17).
  • Raislan Aiken continued his run of dominating the diving events, placing first in both the 1-meter dive and the 3-meter dive. He had 282.90 points in the 1-meter, and 269.29 in the 3-meter to lead the pack.
  • Tyler Wenzel had a personal best score in the 3-meter dive, totaling 246.30 points.
  • Klarsfeld closed out the meet by notching his second, first place finish of the day (previously won the 200-yard breast with a time of 2:09.99) in the final individual event of the meet. He finished with a time of 1:57.59 in the 200-yard IM, besting the second-place finisher by just over one full second.
  • Other first place finishes in the meet included Makarchuk (100-yard butterfly – 52.03), John Hurley (500-yard free – 4:52.72), Sallam (100-yard free – 46.88; 50-yard free 21.47), and Doran (100-yard breast – 53.29).

The Red Foxes will return to the pool next Friday, January 17, as the diving teams will compete in the Navy Diving Invitational. The event is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., and will continue for a second day on Saturday, January 18 which will begin at 10 a.m.

VESTAL, New York – Marist women’s swimming & diving returned to the pool on Friday afternoon, but dropped a non-conference meet 170-129 to the Binghamton Bearcats. This was the first loss for the women’s team in a dual meet competition in over two months.

With the loss, the Red Foxes fall to 7-4 overall on the season, but remain 4-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference meets. Meanwhile, Binghamton moves above .500 and now sits at 4-3 overall on the season, and remains undefeated in its own pool.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The women opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. The team of Juliet NowakGeorgeanne ZimmermanVeronica Stureborg, and Megan Lasto clocked in with a time of 4:05.51.
  • Heather Hartmann won the first individual event of the meet, taking first place in the 100-yard free with a time of 10:36:81. 0
  • Juliet Nowak was the highlight of the meet for the Red Foxes. She placed first in the 100-yard back with a time of 59.87. She also took first in the 200-yard back with a time of 2:10.11.
  • Leigh-Anne Zanella also had a first place finish, taking first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:11.46.
  • Esabelle Gervasio, the four-time MAAC Diver of the Week, had her best meet to the date. She had a personal record 305.03 points in the 3-meter dive, securing first place by over 60 points. She also took first place in the 1-meter five, totaling 272.40 points.
  • With her score of 217.72 in the 1-meter dive, Madison Sweeney has now qualified for the ECAC Championships, joining Gervasio and Grace Reeves.
