2019 NAIA Champions SCAD Add Trinity Schmidt to Class of 2024 Roster

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Distance swimmer Trinity Schmidt has announced her decision to swim at the Savannah College of Art and Design beginning in the 2020-2021 season. She is the second Schmidt sister to swim on a collegiate team. Her sister Sierra, who is also a distance swimmer, is currently a junior on the Michigan women’s team.

I am delighted to announce my decision to attend Savannah College of Art and Design as an artist-athlete. To be able to follow my dream as a sequential artist and contribute to the swimming team as a Bee was an opportunity I could not resist.  Thank you so much to my parents, sister, friends and coaches for all of their help in assisting me with this important milestone in my life.  GO BEES!

In March, Schmidt became the Pennsylvania District 1 Girls champion in the 500 free. The Springfield Township High School senior swam the 200 and 500 free. Her 200 free time of 1:59.60 placed her 6th overall, knocking 0.7 seconds off of her previous best time that she achieved at the same meet a year earlier. Schmidt dominated the 500 free, clocking in at 5:09.97, finishing 5.4 seconds ahead of silver medalist Alexa Turco. Although this was a best time for her, Schmidt went on to lower it a week later at the Pennsylvania AA Girls State Championship. She competed in the 200 and 500 free, placing 26th in the 200 (2:01.14) and making it back to finals in the 500 (5:10.75). In finals, she dropped three seconds from her time and moved from fourth to third place.

Schmidt attended the Middle Atlantic Senior Short Course Championships in Lancaster, PA to swim the longer distance events. Once again, Schmidt went personal best times in the two events. She dropped 11 seconds in the 1000 and 20 seconds in the 1650, both of which she hadn’t swum in two years. Schmidt placed 3rd in the 1650 free behind Megan Fox and Elle Braun.

Top SCY Times:

  • 1650 free – 17:34.78
  • 1000 free – 10:35.21
  • 500 free – 5:06.97
  • 200 free – 1:59.60

Schmidt’s times would have placed her in the A-final of the 500 free and in the top-3 of the 1650 free at the NAIA Championships. Her 500 time would have placed her 6th, making her the 5th SCAD swimmer in the top-8. Similarly, she would have placed 3rd in the 1650 behind future teammate April O’Gorman and Karla Islas of Olivet Nazarene. Schmidt will be joining butterfly specialist Mia Thatcher for the class of 2024.
