MACOMB, Illinois – The UNI swim and dive team picked up a 178-57 win over Western Illinois on Friday night. It was the first dual of a two-day trip to the state of Illinois for the team. The Panthers will take on Illinois State on Saturday.

UNI had first place winners in 12 of the 13 events on the night. The Panthers picked up wins in both relay events and had seven athletes win individual events, including Grace ConsidineMoriah Ross, and Katie Taylor twice. 

The Panthers picked up wins in both relays of the night. The 200 Medley Relay of Jordan McCulloughLauren HavertapeKatie Taylor, Natalia Verastgui won with a time of 1:51.45. With a time of 1:41.73, Piper CarrollGrace ConsidineAshleigh Houlette, and McCullough won the 200 Free. 

Three swimmers won individual races in Grace ConsidineMoriah Ross, and Katie Taylor. Considine won the 1000 Free (11:10.63) and the 500 Free (5:22.33). Ross took first in the 50 Free (25.33) and the 100 Back (59.57). Taylor grabbed first in the 100 Fly (57.31) and the 100 Breast (1:07.50). 

Other first place winners include Rachel Studer in the 200 IM (2:15.29), Jayden Lovell in the 1m Dive (225.68), Jordan McCullough in the 100 Free (55.30), and Taylor Hogan won the 3m Dive (251.33). 

The Panthers will take on the Illinois State Redbirds on Saturday at noon from Normal, Illinois. Fans can track the action by downloading the Meet Mobile App.

MACOMB, Ill. —Miranda Mathus shined in the pool for the Western Illinois women’s swimming and diving team in a home dual meet against Northern Iowa on Friday (Jan. 17). The Panthers won 178-57 collectively.

“I was very happy with our performance,” head coach Scott Johannsen said. “We took a lot of positives out of this competition.”

Mathus won the 200-Free with a time of 2:00.6, three-tenths ahead of the runner-up.

Casey Roberts (25.56) and Alison Spielman (25.70) were neck and neck in the 50-Free to round out the top-three finishers. Roberts excelled again in the 100-Free taking second place with a time of 56.30.

In 3-meter diving Samantha Kessinger came up in third place (177.83 points).

The Leatherneck women have a quick turnaround to join the men’s squad at Valparaiso for a tri-meet with the host Crusaders and Eastern Illinois on Saturday (Jan. 18) at 1 p.m.
