North Carolina State Champion Emily Knorr Commits to West Virginia

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Emily Knorr from suburban Charlotte, North Carolina has verbally committed to the University of West Virginia. A junior at Salisbury High School, Knorr is scheduled to begin competition for the Mountaineers in the fall of 2021.

“I’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to study and swim at West Virginia University.  I would like to thank all my coaches, friends and family who have helped me get to where I am today.  I can’t wait to be a Mountaineer!”

Knorr is a Winter Juniors qualifier who specializes primarily in middle distance and distance freestyles. Last season, at the North Carolina 1A2A (small schools) High School State Championship meet, she won the state title in the 500 free in 4:52.73 and finished 3rd in the 200 free in 1:50.86.

Best Times in Yards:

  • 100 free – 53.86
  • 200 free – 1:50.86
  • 500 free – 4:52.73
  • 1000 free – 10:05.95
  • 1650 free – 16:48.05
  • 400 IM – 4:27.72

Knorr will then move from one team, the Mecklenburg Swim Association, that opened a glittering new 50 meter facility last fall to another, West Virginia, that did the same.

WVU finished 3rd at last year’s Big 12 Championship meet, 540.5 points behind Texas and 221.5 behind Kansas. Knorr’s best times in the 500, 1000, and 1650 freestyles would be West Virginia’s best swims so far this season, including by more than 32 seconds in the 1650.

Emily Knorr has a twin sister Katie Knorr who is also a swimmer (4:25 in the 400 IM, 2:03 in the 200 yard back), but has not yet made a public college commitment. Tied as the youngest of 5 siblings, her older brother Ethan is a sophomore on the men’s varsity team at East Carolina
