The Liberty swimming & diving team sent its seniors out in style, defeating both Campbell and James Madison on Saturday at the Liberty Natatorium.

Liberty (13-3, 5-0 CCSA) won both of its dual meets at today’s TYR ’85 Senior Celebration, downing James Madison 159-141 while posting a 221-73 win over Campbell (8-8).  JMU (7-1) topped Campbell 217-77.

The Lady Flames honored their five graduating seniors – Hannah Baker, Colleen Donlin, Mikayla Herich, Kendal Irwin and Brittany Weiss – with a senior day ceremony. This group is the winningest senior class in program history, posting a 49-7 dual-meet record during the last four years.

Notable
• Liberty won nine events, including both relays, while James Madison claimed six event victories and Campbell won the 200 freestyle relay.

• The Lady Flames are 5-0 against CCSA opponents this season and have won their last 20 CCSA dual meets in a row since a 137-125 loss at FGCU on Jan. 7, 2017.

• Liberty has faced Campbell more than any other opponent in program history, leading the all-time series 15-2. Meanwhile, the Lady Flames improve to 4-3 all-time against James Madison.

• The Lady Flames are now a perfect 13-0 in dual meets hosted at Liberty Natatorium, including 3-0 this season.

• Junior Payton Keiner won the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and 200 IM, also leading off the winning 200 medley relay.

• James Madison’s Bonnie Zhang also picked up three event victories, winning the 50 free, 100 free and 200 free.

• Lauren Chennault won one-meter diving with a score of 285.75. Additionally, Liberty’s Abigail Egolf-Jensen scored 267.53 points for fourth. Egolf-Jensen’s score earns her inclusion into the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in the event. Chennault and Egolf-Jensen are both qualified for the meet in one-meter and three-meter this season, while Olivia Robinson qualified at one-meter during the season opener.

• Liberty set new team season bests in the following events today: 50 backstroke (Payton Keiner – 25.58); 200 medley relay (1:44.09), 200 free (Eva Suggs – 1:50.89), 100 back (Keiner – 54.32), 100 breaststroke (Mikayla Herich – 1:04.96) and 200 IM (Keiner – 2:04.83).

• Keiner’s 100 backstroke and Suggs’ 200 freestyle from today were the fastest times by a CCSA swimmer in those respective events so far this season.

Historically Speaking
• Sophomore Allison Van Milligan moved into fourth place on Liberty’s all-time top 10 performers list with her 228.00 score in three-meter diving from today.

The Lady Flames will look to defend their conference title next month. For the first time since 2014, the CCSA Swimming & Diving Championships will be held at Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tenn., Feb. 19-22. The last time the CCSA Championships were held at Tennessee, Liberty earned its first-ever conference title. The facility was also the site of current Liberty diving coach Tori Lamp Wood’s All-American career.

PRESS RELEASE – JAMES MADISON

LYNCHBURG, Va. – On Saturday afternoon the Dukes competed at Liberty in a tri-team meet against the Flames and Campbell. James Madison Swimming and Diving had a successful day in the pool, picking up seven first-place finishes and multiple top-3 finishes.

To start the event this morning, the JMU 200 medley team’s both had successful showings finishing second and third with a two second split. Julianna Jones finished first in the 1000 freestyle and the 500 freestyle, while Bailey Butler finished third in the 1000 freestyle and second in the 500 freestyle.

Bonnie Zhang collected three first-place finishes, winning the 200 freestyle, 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle. Faith Anderson and Emily Gross both traded places all afternoon in the 3-meter dive, but Anderson squeaked out the victory over Gross by .83 points.

Hannah Lagod wrapped up the Dukes’ first-place finishes with a victory in the 100 butterfly. JMU closed out the afternoon with the 200 freestyle relay, finishing second. JMU fell to Liberty 159 to 141, but defeated Campbell 217 to 77.

James Madison swimming and diving continue the 2019-20 season at Marshall in Huntington, West Virginia. The meet begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 1.

PRESS RELEASE – CAMPBELL

LYNCHBURG, Va. — Highlighted by a first-place finish in the 200-free relay, Campbell University swimming ended its 2019-20 regular season by dropping a 221-73 decision to the Liberty Flames on Saturday afternoon inside the Liberty Natatorium.

With the loss, Campbell closed out the regular season with an 8-8 record.

James Madison and Liberty also competed against each other, with Liberty winning 159-141.

The Fighting Camels ended the meet by winning the 200-free relay as the team of Sarah WilsonColleen RenshawMaddie Baiotto and Annie Sanchez collectively swam a 1:35.14, besting James Madison’s second-place team (1:36.20) by over one second.

Sanchez earned Campbell’s highest finish in the 200 free, taking third place in 1:54.40. Sanchez also took third in the 100 free with a mark of 52.61, while Renshaw earned a third-place finish in the 50 free (23.93).

Wilson took fourth in the 50 free (24.19); she also took sixth in the 100 free (53.33), with Renshaw and Neringa Cerniauskaite finishing right behind her in seventh (53.54) and eighth (53.86), respectively.

Baiotto had Campbell’s best finishes in the butterfly events, taking second in the 100 fly (56.81) after a fourth-place finish in the 200 fly (2:09.23).

In the 1,000 free, Maggie Whitman swam a 10:49.66 for fourth place, just two spots ahead of Kacey Hauck’s season-best time of 10:59.78. Hauck and Whitman went eight-nine in the 500 free with times of 5:21.90 and 5:22.23, respectively, finishing right behind Eric Losey’s seventh-place time of 5:21.65.

In the breaststroke events, Brenna Divoky posted Campbell’s top times in the 100 breast and 200 breast, swimming marks of 1:09.55 (eighth) and 2:34.98 (ninth), respectively.

Julia Sherlock was the fastest backstroke swimmer for the Camels, taking fifth in the 100 back (58.19) before finishing sixth in the 200 back (2:08.02). Skyler DeWall posted CU’s best 200 individual medley mark of the day with a ninth-place time of 2:16.27.

Campbell’s 200-medley relay B-team of Julia SherlockCaitlyn EdwardsSkyler DeWall and Wilson took sixth place with a combined time of 1:50.93.

This marks the end of the 2019-20 regular season for the Campbell swimming program. Postseason competition begins with the CCSA Championships, which is slated for Feb. 18-22 in Knoxville, Tenn., on the campus of the University of Tennessee.
