Dixie State closed out the 2019-20 regular season with a home dual victory over Loyola Marymount Saturday at the DSU HPC Pool. The Trailblazers won 10 of 11 events overall to outscore the Lions by a 154-50 count to claim their third dual win of the year.

DSU won eight individual events, all by different swimmers, highlighted by race victories for seniors Audrey Hyde (50-yard freestyle; 25.18) and Hannah Hansen (100 fly; 59.12) in their final home meet. Meanwhile, four freshmen posted event wins, including Portia Blackert in the 1,000 free (10:53.15), Maddie Corder in the 200 free (1:58.81), Kyrie Sutherland in the 200 IM (2:13.21) and Claire Kieffer in the 100 free (54.52).

In addition, junior Miriam Gonzalez touched the wall first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.21, and sophomore McKenzie Chesler claimed victory in the 100 back at 1:01.10.

Dixie State also swept both relays as the team of sophomore Gracie Kroll, Gonzalez, sophomore Kelsea Wright and Kieffer opened the meet with a win in the 200 medlay relay at 1:48.01 (#7 all-time at DSU). Then in the final event of the day, the grouping of Wright, Kieffer, sophomore Megan Ruppenthal and Sutherland took first in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:40.10.

“We tried a couple different races today, we wanted the girls who don’t get the chance to swim in their third and fourth events to do so before we head to the [RMAC] conference meet,” DSU Head Coach Tamber McAllister said. “It was a fun meet for us, we did a great job supporting each other and wishing our seniors good luck [in their final home meet]. We saw a couple things that we’ll make adjustments for before resting this week.”

Dixie State will take the next two weeks off from competition to prepare for the upcoming 2020 RMAC Swimming and Diving Championships, which will be held Feb. 12-15, in Grand Junction, Colo.
