Bryant, Marist Finish Off Regular Seasons With Split

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist men’s swimming & diving cruised past Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Bryant on Saturday afternoon. The Red Foxes routed the Bulldogs, who were one of two teams to finish above Marist in last year’s Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships, by a score of 191-104. The Red Foxes celebrated senior day prior to today’s meet, with seniors Michael O’Donovan, Raislan Aiken, David Gallino, and Preston DeMarco being honored in the ceremony.

With the win, the Red Foxes close the regular season winning five dual meets in a row, surrounding a second-place finish at the H2Ounds Invitational, and finish with an overall record of 11-2.  Marist also improves to 5-1 in MAAC competitions. Meanwhile, Bryant falls below .500 to 4-5 on the season, and has now lost four dual meets in a row.

• The men’s team opened with a first-place victory in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Ahmed Sallam, Jackson Klarsfeld, Pavel Makarchuk, and Ethan McCormac clocked in with a time if 1:34.72.
• The Red Foxes caught fire in the middle of the meet, winning three straight events. Klarsfeld took first in the 100-yard breast (58.99), Adam Kapusta finished first in the 200-yard fly (1:52.65), and Sallam secured first in the 50-yard free (21.74).
• Kapusta once again dominated, tying for a meet-high 22 points. He also placed first in the 500-yard free (4:46.70) and then came in second in the 200-yard back (1:54.99).
• Sallam also totaled 22 points in the meet. Besides the 50-yard free, he also won the 100-yard free with a time of 47.63, and he came in second in the 100-yard back with a time of 52.47.
• Ante Dany had a solid all-around meet, finishing with 16 total points. He placed first in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:43.99, then came in second and third in the 100-yard free (48.09) and 500-yard free (4:55.62), respectively.
• Other first place finishes in the meet include Klarsfeld (200-yard breast – 2:08.95) and Makarchuk (100-yard fly – 50.86)

• Senior captain O’Donovan picked up Marist’s first individual victory of the day, clocking in at 9:53.64 in the 1000-yard freestyle.
• O’Donovan also had a great performance in the 500-yard free, taking second place with a time of 4:48.32.
• Senior captain Aiken had a massive performance in both diving events. He won the 1-meter board with a score of 281.48, and then won the 3-meter dive with a score of 270.30.
• Aiken was then given a chance to swim in the 400-yard free relay at the end of the meet, and he put up a time of 50.68 in the 100-yard free.
• Gallino placed second in the 3-meter dive with 247.43 points, and placed 4^th in thr 1-meter dive with 241.05 points. He totaled six points in the meet.

The Red Foxes no longer have any dual meets on their schedule, and will now start preparations for the MAAC Championships. Marist has next week off, and then the event will begin on Wednesday, February 12 at 6 p.m. It will run through Saturday, February 15. The MAAC Championships will take place in Buffalo, NY.

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist women’s swimming & diving fell to the Bryant Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon at McCann Natatorium. The Red Foxes kept the score close, but weren’t able to climb all the way back in the end, falling by a score of 170-128. Marist celebrated senior day prior to today’s meet, with seniors Jessica Miller, Julia Solin, and Juliet Nowak being honored in the ceremony.

With the loss, the Red Foxes fall to 8-5 overall on the season, but remain 4-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference meets. Meanwhile, Bryant improves to 7-3 overall on the season.

• The women opened up senior day with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. The team consisting of Juliet Nowak, Georgeanne Zimmerman, Veronica Stureborg, and Megan Lasto finished at 1:46.10.
• Jessica Freund was the second leading scorer of the women’s swimmers, scoring nine points in the meet. Her best performance was a second place finish in the 200-yard breast (2:27.77).
• Esabelle Gervasio, the five-time MAAC Diver of the Week, had another dominant performance. She won the 3-meter dive with a score of 252.15, and then won the 1-meter dive later in the competition with a score of 235.30.
• Madison Sweeney placed second in the 3-meter dive and fourth in the 1-meter dive, with scores of 222.15 and 209.25, respectively.
• Marist finished strong with a second place finish in the 400-yard free relay, as the team of Georgeanne Zimmerman, Emma Butzler, Sidney Judson, and Jordyn Deubel clocked in at 3:41.68.

• Senior captain Nowak set the tone early for the Red Foxes, getting the team on the board with their first individual first-place victory. She finished with a time of 59.23 in the 100-yard back.
• Nowak also finished with a time of 28.01 in the 50-back portion of the 200-yard medley, helping Marist get on the board early. She was the highlight of the meet for Marist, leading the team with 14 points, also finishing in second place in the 200-yard back with a time of 2:08.48.
• Miller had two third place finishes in the meet, and totaled six points. She finished in third in the 200-yard fly with a time of 2:14.38, and then third in the 100-yard fly with a time 1:00.90

The Red Foxes no longer have any dual meets on their schedule, and will now start preparations for the MAAC Championships. Marist has next week off, and then the event will begin on Wednesday, February 12 at 6 p.m. It will run through Saturday, February 15. The MAAC Championships will take place in Buffalo, NY.

Notes and Notables

• Bryant started the meet with a second and third-place finish in the 200 medley relay. The team of Alaina Scifo (Ipswich, Great Britain), Kayleigh Canavan (Cumberland, R.I.), Alexa Rivera (Boynton Beach, Fla.), and Laurel Carey (Madison, N.J.) earned second (1:50.11). Lindsey Choate (Upper St. Clair, Pa.), Heather Wong (Ramsey, N.J.), Domenica Alcala (Cancun, Mexico), and Alyvia Beaudion (Cypress, Texas) teamed up to place third (1:51.38).
• The Bulldogs earned their first victory from Sammi Grenon (Cheshire, Conn.) in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:30.48. Alyssa DiFiore (Wethersfield, Conn.) finished third (10:41.14) in the same event.
• Rivera continued her momentum from last weekend with first-place finishes in the 100 (53.33) and 200 freestyle (1:57.52). She also won the 200 individual medley (2:11.47).
• Erin Doruska (Ankeny, Iowa) earned second in the 200 freestyle (1:57.54) and Reetta Kanervo (Oulu, Finalnd) placed third (54.48) in the 100 freestyle.
• The Black and Gold placed third in the 100 backstroke with Scifo posting a time of 1:01.10.
• Bryant got its second win of the meet from Wong (1:07.87) in the 100 breaststroke. Canavan earned third-place (1:09.45) in this event.
• The Bulldogs finished ahead of the pack again in the 200 butterfly with Grenon finishing first (2:11.62).
• The Black and Gold then had a dominant 1-3 finish in the 50 freestyle. Kanervo won (24.48), Carey placed second (25.20), and Julia Larson (Wauwatosa, Wis.) earned third place with a time of 25.54.
• Scifo added another victory for Bryant in the 200 backstroke (2:07.43)
• The Bulldogs continued their great day with a first-place triumph in the 200 breaststroke from Wong (2:25.17). Fellow teammate Cannavan finished in third with a time of 2:28.89.
• The winning didn’t stop with a 1-2 finish from DiFiore (5:12.81) and Grenon (5:14.09) in the 500 freestyle.
• In diving, Kyri Chambo (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) placed second in the three-meter dive (215.00) and finished third in the one-meter dive with a score of 207.68.
• Bryant earned another 1-2 finish in the 100 Butterfly with Kanervo placing first (57.80) and Gendron earning second with a time of 1:00.75.
•  The Black and Gold concluded the meet with a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay from the team of Doruska, Kanervo, Canavan, and Carey (3:38.81). DiFiore, Choate, Larson, and Beaudion teamed up to place third (3:43.73).

• Matthew Mays (St. Croix, Virgin Islands), Eric Bebel (Westfield, N.J.), Zach DiGiaro (Middletown, N.J.), and Juan Gozalez (Al Safa, Dubai) teamed up to finish second (1:36.32) in the 200 medley relay.
• Bryant got its first victory of the meet from Mays in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.37.
• The Black and Gold earned a third-place finish in the 100 breastroke by Payton Nicastro (State College, Pa.) who finished with a time of 1:03.38.
• The Bulldogs kept the momentum going with DiGiaro placing third (1:58.28) in the 200 butterfly.
• Fellow senior Gonzalez also finished third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.13.
• Mays continued his fantastic day with another win in the 200 backstroke (1:51.64).
• In diving, Zachary Vogel (South Easton, Mass.) placed second in the one-meter dive with a score of 262.58. Fellow diver Trevor Hazlewood (Corpus Christi, Texas) earnded third-place in the one-meter (245.70) and three-meter dives (261.45).
• Bryant ended the meet on a high note with DiGiaro finishing third in the 100 butterfly postng a time of 53.52.
