In his 2nd season as the head coach at Arizona, Eric Hansen had a busy month in December. He lead both the men’s and women’s programs to fabulous meets at the Short Course Winter National Championships and then headed out to Turkey as USA’s Head Men’s Coach at the Short Course World Championships. Fast forward to February and the Wildcats are in the heavy part of their dual meet schedule. The ladies upset the defending NCAA champion Cal Bears as both teams took on Cal and Stanford this past weekend. The road doesn’t get much easier with both squads heading to Texas this weekend to take on the Longhorns.
In this interview with Garrett McCaffrey, Eric discusses relays going into championship season, the leaders on both the men’s and the women’s teams, and the differences between his first season in Tucson and this second season.

It’s a different Hanson. No relation to Eric.
How did the men’s team do against the Stanford men?
It looks like he isn’t taht Hansen, oh well.
I think Eric’s dad writes for the Daily Star in Tucson. He had a son who swam for University of Arizona. Tucson is a middle size metro area sitll under a 1 million but it gets good rcruits and local talent.
