MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho swim and dive celebrated senior day with a big win on Friday, taking down conference foe New Mexico State, 172-126. The Vandals said goodbye to eight seniors, who were swimming at home for the final time.
Idaho got out to a great start with a win in the 200-yard medley. Kaling Phung, Aimee Iwamoto, Rylie Jones and Katie Hale earned the win in 1:45.12.
Iwamoto earned two individual wins as well. She won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.39, and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:21.75.
Phung, Jones and Hale also took individual wins. Phung won the 100-yard backstroke in 57.57 seconds, and Hale won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.54 seconds. Jones took first in the 100-yard fly in 56.54 seconds.
Heather Carbon won both the 1-meter and 3-meter dive competitions.
Brianna Lucien and Alexa Teneyck went 1-2 in the distance events, with each getting a win. Teneyck came out on top in the 1000-yard free, in 10:25.71, while Lucien won the 500-free in 5:13.04.
Haylee Buyers earned two wins. She first won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:07.56, then finished first in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:38.84. Alexis Schmidt won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:07.05.
Next up for the Vandals are the WAC Championships, in Houston later this month.

MOSCOW, Idaho – The New Mexico State swimming and diving team diving team dropped a 172-126 decision at Western Athletic Conference foe Idaho on Friday night in its final regular-season meet.
“Traveling up to Idaho is always a challenging meet and despite the ending score we swam many in-season best times,” said head Coach Rick Pratt. “Unfortunately we couldn’t win enough events versus a team who swam very, very well today. We had key individuals who were sick, but still battled until the end with our best dual meet 400free relay. Airam was very good and adjusted a couple things from her 50 to come up with some great 100s. Neza also swam very tough today and Jordan Andrusak looked strong. We’ve got to rest more and continue practicing perfect details moving towards WAC, I’m confident we’re doing to right thing to peak at the right time.”
Neza Kocijan picked up the first Aggie win of the day in the 200 Free with a time of 1:54.85. Freshman Skylar Welle came close to another NM State victory but lost by one-tenth of a second in the 100 Breast at 1:05.48.
Senior Grace Laporte had a season-best 10:35.18 in the 1000 Free and picked up a third place finish. Lilly Araujo also recorded a season-best time in the 100 Free with a 10:37.56.
The Aggies also got a win from Jordan Andrusak who finished first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:10.64.
NM State now prepares for WAC Championships set to take place in Houston, Texas, from Feb. 26-29. The Aggies finished second at WAC Championships with Alix Knagg winning an individual championship in the 200 Back.
