Ohio State Hosts Annual Winter Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State swimming and diving program will host its Ohio State Winter Invitational Friday, Feb. 14-Saturday, Feb. 16 at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The three-day event will host over 130 athletes from eight teams, including Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Akron, Johns Hopkins, Illinois, Purdue, Notre Dame and Eastern Michigan.

Ohio State will have 20 athletes competing over the weekend including 12 women and eight men. The Buckeye women include Leah Baker, Alissa Cook, Kendyl Ferrara, Quinn Fike, Brooke Glesenkamp, Grace Kowal, Morgan Kraus, Lauren Kurzydlo, Becca Luft, Meredith Moellering, Sarah Turchanik and Katie Wright. The eight men swimming for the Scarlet and Gray are Dom Harry, Jay Johnson, Matthew Magness, Ian Mikesell, John Sampson, Kyle Silver, and Jonathan Sugar.

As of January 22, the Ohio State men are ranked No. 14 in the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Top 25 Dual Meet Poll while the women come in at No. 7. In the NCAA power rankings, the Buckeye men rank No. 13 while the women received votes in the SwimSwam ranking.

All preliminary races will begin at 11 a.m. while finals begin at 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Day three finals will begin at 4 p.m. There will be no diving competitions.

LAST TIME OUT

The Ohio State men’s swimming and diving program competed against Pitt in a Big Ten-ACC matchup for the last dual meet of the season. The meet was observed but not scored in preparation for championship season. Final totals had the No. 7 Ohio State women’s swimmers winning 10 races while the 14th-ranked men won five races.

The Ohio State divers were dominant as Jacob Fielding won both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events with teammates Joseph Canova second on the 1-meter and Jacob Siler second on the 3-meter. On women’s 1-meter, Genevieve Angerame and Lexie Barker went one-two, while Jackie Brenn won on 3-meter.
