Will Carson Foster Make The U.S. Olympic Team? GMM Presented by SwimOutlet.com

Gold Medal Minute presented by SwimOutlet.com

Olympic hopeful Carson Foster had a solid showing at the Knoxville Pro Swim, including an eye-popping 1:47 200 meter freestyle, a great swim in January. He’s been improving rapidly over the years, maturing just in time to make the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team.

Carson Foster – Jan 2020 Knoxville Pro Swim Times:

  • 200 free – 1:47.7
  • 200 IM – 1:59.5
  • 400 IM – 4:18..8

Carson Foster – Personal Best Times:

  • 200 free – 1:47.4 (2019 World Jr Champs)
  • 200 IM – 1;58.4 (2019 World Jr Champs)
  • 400 IM – 4:13.3 (2019 U.S. Summer Nationals)

U.S. Olympic Trials – Carson Foster Predictions:

Making the U.S. Olympic Team so young, before any NCAA experience, is a very tall order. Carson is an outlier, a rare talent who can do it.

Carson makes the men’s 4×200 freestyle relay. He advances to the 200 free final in Omaha. Youth and enthusiasm powers him past no less than two swimmers in that race final, putting him on the Team USA relay.

400 IM in the U.S. is a little soft, but someone’s going to go 4:08 or 4:09 low in Omaha to make Team USA in this event. I think that person is Carson.

I’m on the fence about the 200 IM and 20o back. Carson should final. He put great times on the board, but I see him placing 4-7 in those events.

But who cares what I think. What do you think?

I think he’ll be an even bigger threat to make the team because he will be another year older, bigger and stronger….a force to be reckoned with for sure.

Yes, look at his freestyle technique very smooth, he’ll easily go 1:45 at trials and get a relay spot. 200 IM 1:56 400 IM 4:09. Whether he makes these will depend on what the other guys go.

What do we think the 6th place time in 200fr will be? 1:46.5ish?

That’s certainly in range for Carson.

The 200 IM is looking a lot more open. Kalisz has been inconsistent over the last two years and we don’t really know where Lochte is at. I think Carson goes a 1:56 and sneaks onto the team in the 2 IM.

I follow so many sports and I’m getting older so right now I don’t remember all of my opinions about swimming

Fun fact – Carson is training at OTC this week with Regan Smith and her coach, Mike. Pretty cool practice pairing!

Are there any one else training at OTC besides Regan, Luca, and Carson? Because lots of National team members or Jr Nat team members compete for high school meets now.

No, I don’t think he will.

He’s going to be in multiple events. It’s going to a rollercoaster meet for him with all the heats and semis and finals.

He’s so talented that he may have more swims than almost anyone else at the meet.

His coaches will have to plan out a schedule that doesn’t leave him worn out. The 200 IM comes late in the meet and that might be his best chance.
