Amy Townend, a current high school senior from Chester Heights, Pennsylvania, has committed to swim for Division III Bates College. Townend will graduate from Garnet Valley High School in spring 2020 and join the Bobcats’ class of 2024.
Townend is currently a year-round swimmer for the Suburban Seahawks Swim Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania where she specializes mainly in distance freestyle and IM. In 2018, Townend qualified for Open Water Junior Nationals where she swam the 7.5k junior race. She is also a two-time PIAA State qualifier where her 400 freestyle relay team has placed 6th.

With her current best times, Townend would have had multiple finals performances at the 2020 NESCAC Championships. Most notably, she would have placed 7th in the 1650 freestyle (17:42.20) and 14th in the 400 IM (4:37.13)

As a team, the Bates Bulldogs placed 4th as a team at the 2020 NESCAC Championships.
Townend will begin her swimming career at Bates College in fall 2020.
