SUNY Geneseo Women Win 13th, Men Claim 7th Straight SUNYAC Title

MEN

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Geneseo men’s swimming and diving team won its seventh straight State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title with a total of 964.5 points, Saturday night at the Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo. This win marks the 27th overall title for the program. Following behind the Knights was Cortland in second and Oswego in third place.


Individual Awards

Outstanding Diver of the Meet- Corey Wirth, Geneseo
Oustanding Swimmer of the Meet- Hunter Bernhardt, Cortland
James Fulton Award- Matt Mattera, Geneseo
Co-Diving Coach of the Year- Shawn Austin, Geneseo and Kevin Morgan, Oswego
Swimming Coaching Staff of the Year- Geneseo


All-Conference

The conference honors the top three finishers in each event at the championship earning a spot on the SUNYAC first, second or third team all-conference.


Elite 20

The SUNYAC Elite 20, an award modeled after the NCAA ELITE 90 program, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers.  This year’s men’s honoree is Oneonta senior Jared Ciccarelli who has a 3.91GPA in business economics

WOMEN

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Geneseo won its 13th straight and 28th overall State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women’s swimming and diving championship, Saturday night at the Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo. Cortland finished second while New Paltz was third.


Record Breakers

Geneseo’s Paige Turcotte broke the meet record in the 200 breaststroke swimming the race in 2:19.12 Saturday night.
