The 2020 men’s Ivy League Championships continue tonight with finals of the 1000 free, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, and 400 medley relay. Harvard’s Michael Zarian set a Pool Record with his performance in the 400 IM this morning, but will battle Princeton’s 200 IM champ Raunak Khosla tonight. Umit Gures of Harvard is chasing the Meet Record in the 100 fly after missing it by just a hundredth this morning.
MEN’S 1000 FREE

Harvard freshman Cole Kuster is 2-for-2 in the distance events. Kuster made another massive drop of nearly 16 seconds. He took over the lead at the 300 from Princeton freshman Dylan Porges and held off Porges’ charge on the final 50 to win it in 8:57.24. Porges dropped 14 seconds for silver in 8:57.68.
Dartmouth’s Connor LaMastra, the 500 free runner-up, took 17 seconds off his best to land bronze in 9:02.23. He held off Brown freshman Lukas Scheidl, who dropped 18 seconds to finish narrowly shy of the podium in 9:02.75.
Another Harvard freshman, Noah Brune, made a 4-second drop to win a tight battle for 5th in 9:03.42. Columbia’s Jack Scanlon put up a lifetime best 9:03.63 for 6th, just ahead of 500 free bronze medalist Levy Nathan (9:03.94) of Princeton.
MEN’S 400 IM

Princeton’s Raunak Khosla completed a sweep of the IMs, breaking 3:42 for the first time to break Michael Zarian‘s Pool Record from prelims. Khosla, the 2019 runner-up, dominated the race in 3:41.75. Harvard’s Zarian was well off his best from prelims, but still improved on his 4th place finish from 2019 as he took silver in 3:46.77.
Brown’s Ben Hayes came from behind on the breast leg to outpace Penn’s Will Kamps for the bronze, 3:50.11 to 3:51.51. Penn’s Billy Fallon was closely behind in 3:51.92. Brown freshman Lukas Scheidl swam a double today, placing 6th here in 3:53.18 after the 1000 free.
Penn freshman Jason Schreiber put up 3:52.54 to win the B final, the 6th fastest time of the night. He was within tenths of his lifetime best 3:51.97 from 2018.
MEN’S 100 FLY

Harvard’s Umit Gures, who set a school record in prelims and a new Pool Record, was just off that tonight in 45.27. Yale freshman Connor Lee dropped a lifetime best 46.12 for 2nd. Columbia’s Jonas Kistorp, the 2019 silver medalist, was 3rd in 46.53. Teammate Albert Gwo, the 50 free champion, was 6th in 46.96.
Kistorp narrowly edged out Harvard’s Jacob Johnson as Johnson closed the gap by over half a second on the back half. Johnson was 5 hundredths shy of the podium in 46.58. Penn’s Sean Lee was a nail behind to round out the top 5 in 46.60.
MEN’S 200 FREE

Harvard’s Corban Rawls clipped his best in 1:34.75, running down Columbia’s Nianguo Liu for the win. Liu had the fastest time of the day with his 1:34.31 in prelims. Brown’s Michael Lincoln (1:35.09) took the bronze, distancing himself from Harvard freshman Marcus Holmquist (1:35.65) on the 3rd 50.
MEN’S 100 BREAST

- 2019 Champion: Derek Cox (Princeton), 53.30
- GOLD: Derek Cox, Princeton, 53.37
- SILVER: Charles Vaughan, Harvard, 53.84

Princeton’s Derek Cox repeated as champion, just hundredths shy of his 2019 winning time in 53.37. In a very close race for silver, Harvard’s Charles Vaughan got his hands to the wall ahead of Princeton’s Corey Lau (53.87).
Cornell’s Ryan Brown held off a late charge from Penn’s Boris Yang, 54.42 to 54.63, for 4th place. Columbia freshman Michael Chang had the 5th fastest swim of the night with a 54.44 to win the B final.
MEN’S 100 BACK

Cornell freshman Paige Dacosta and Harvard freshman Gunner Grant raced for the 100 back win. Dacosta dropped 3 tenths off his best to edge out Grant, 46.52 to 46.89. Grant was a little over a tenth shy of his best.
Columbia’s Cole Stevens, who won the B final in 2019, raced to bronze in 47.14. Behind him, Cornell’s Dylan Curtis was just shy of his prelims time in 47.40. Winning the B final this season was Columbia’s Jonas Kistorp. Shortly after his bronze in the 100 fly, Kistorp put up a 48.44.
MEN’S 400 MEDLEY RELAY

Columbia’s Cole Stevens led off with a 47.20 shortly after his bronze in the 100 back. Nianguo Liu took on the breast leg in 52.89, while Jonas Kistorp put up a 45.92 fly split in his 3rd race of the night. Albert Gwo anchored in 42.30 as they won the race in 3:08.41.
Harvard took the bronze in 3:09.09 with Gunner Grant (back- 47.01), Charles Vaughan (breast- 54.06), Umit Gures (fly- 45.12), and Corban Rawls (free- 42.90). Cornell (3:11.62) took 3rd, highlighted by a 53.69 breast split by Ryan Brown and a 43.64 anchor from Trevor Lake. Yale freshman Joseph Page anchored in 42.82 as they finished 4th in 3:12.20.
