Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
NCAA Division II program University of West Florida has picked up sprint freestyler Aimee Patterson as a member of the class of 2024. Patterson announced her decision by saying, “I chose the University of West Florida because when I stepped foot on campus the first time, I knew that it was the perfect college for me to go to the next four years. The facilities and campus are amazing and the coaches and team were very welcoming to me during my visit.UWF has tons of resources and opportunities both in the classroom and in athletics and I am really excited to be on campus in the fall! Go Argos!”
Patterson was a member of Metea Valley High School’s state championship team in her junior and senior seasons. Junior year, she competed in the 50 free and the 400 free-relay at the IHSA Girls State Championships. She finished 29th in the 50 free with a time of 24.53 and she swam the second leg on the 400-free relay (52.61). The relay – consisting of Laurel Bludgen, Patterson, Kellie Willhite, and McKenna Stone – came from behind New Trier High School to earn the silver medal. The Metea Valley women finished 7th overall. During her final season, Patterson earned a spot in the B-final of the 50 free, finishing 12th with a time of 23.90 after a personal best time of 23.73 in prelims. Patterson swam the third leg (23.10) on the 200-free relay which earned a close 2nd behind Neuqua Valley High School. She also swam the third leg on the 400-free relay that earned 4th. Her split of 51.54 was 1.1 seconds faster than what she had gone on the relay a year earlier. Metea Valley High School’s women moved up two spots from the previous year, finishing 5th overall.
Patterson spent a lot of time in the water, as she was also a member of her school’s water polo team.
At the club level, Patterson swims for Maverick Swim Club in Naperville, IL. At these meets, she competes in a wider range of events than she does at her high school meets. In January, she competed at the IN OLY Circle City Classic. She swam the 50, 100, and 200 free, and the 50 and 100 back, breast, and fly. She made it back to finals in the 50 free, touching with a final time of 24.47.

In the fall, Patterson will join the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference champions as they head into their 2020-2021 season. Her 50 free time will place her behind rising-junior Ester Rizzetto and would have qualified her for a 2020 NCAA DII B-cut. In addition, she would have been seeded 4th after prelims at the 2020 conference meet.
