Toledo Removes Interim Tag, Makes Brie Globig Head Coach of Toledo Swimming

The University of Toledo has removed the interim tag from Brie Globig‘s title and named her the head coach of the school’s women’s swimming & diving team. Globig was the interim head coach for the 2019-2020 season.

“I am grateful and excited for the opportunity to continue to lead the women’s swimming and diving teams at the University of Toledo,” Globig said. “The program has a rich history of success, and I am eager to continue its trajectory of excellence.”

Globig is one of the youngest Division I head coaches in the country, having only finished her undergraduate degree in 2012. She took over the program in September after Jonas Persson left to become the associate head coach at Utah.

In her first season leading the Toledo program, the Rockets finished 6th at the Mid-American Conference Championships, just 10.5 points behind Bowling Green State for 5th place. That was a 1 place, and 112 point, improvement, over a season prior. The team’s dual meet record also improved from 3-6 to 6-5.

“During this past season as the interim head coach, Brie demonstrated the type of leadership we are looking for in our women’s swimming and diving program,” Director of Athletics Mike O’Brien said. “We are excited that Brie will continue as a Rocket and look forward to the future development of our swimming and diving student- athletes.”

The team’s top scorer, Izzy Jones, will return for her senior season next year. She scored 48 points individually out of 141 individual points scored by the team.

Globig joined the Rockets in July of 2019 as an assistant coach and was promoted to interim head coach just 2 months later. She came to the program after 4 seasons as the head coach at Division II East Stroudsburg University. She also spent a year as a graduate assistant at California University (Pa.).

At East Stroudsburg University, she led the team to 14 school records.

Bloomsburg swam collegiately at Division II Bloomsburg University from 2008-2012.
