What will Ryan Lochte do?
No, it’s not a sequel to his short-lived 2013 reality television series What Would Ryan Lochte Do, but it could be.
NBC Sports announced on Thursday that it is producing a new Ryan-Lochte-themed documentary In Deep With Ryan Lochte on NBCUniversal’s new streaming service Peacock. Peacock launched a preview on April 15th for Comcast’s Xfinity X1 cable customers and its Flex streaming customers, and for everyone else will launch on July 15th.
This edition of inside-Ryan-Lochte seems to be prepared for a more serious tone than the previous show on E!, which largely centered around Lochte’s abs and shenanigans with his brother.
The documentary intends to chronicle Lochte’s reinvention as a ‘family man,’ now married with 2 children, after the post-Olympic-Games Rio gas station debacle that made international headlines.
NBC’s description of the documentary
At the 2016 Rio Olympics Ryan Lochte (Celebrity Big Brother, Dancing with the Stars) was at the center of a scandal that has since overshadowed a decorated swimming career that includes 12 Olympic medals. Now a 35-year-old husband and father of two young children, Lochte is hoping for one more chance to make Team USA and prove he’s not the same man he was four years ago.
In Deep with Ryan Lochte is produced by Peacock and NBC Sports Films.
Lochte, with 12 Olympic medals, is tied with Jenny Thompson, Dara Torres, and Natalie Coughlin as the 2nd-most awarded Olympic swimmer in history. If he qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games, which have been pushed from 2020 to 2021, it would be his 5th Olympic Games. Based on early results last summer in his return from a one-year suspension for a violation of anti-doping rules, Lochte’s best shot at an individual swim is in the 200 IM. His time of 1:57.76 at the U.S. National Championships ranked him 12th in the world and made him the 3rd-best American. With a group of young up-and-coming swimmers like Michael Andrew, Carson Foster, and Shaine Casas all focusing on this 200 IM, though, the extra year might be one year too long for Lochte to earn a top 2 spot.
Ryan came to our team and did a free fundraiser for our Infant Aquatics program. He was very co-operative and gave a fantastic clinic. No ego. He loves his fans!
Haven’t we all had enough of never ending Lochte drama and cry for attention???
Not only has Ryan been able to stay in shape, his mental side is stronger than ever. Honorable and accountable. Ryan has faced his mistakes and has become an amazing role model for all young up and coming athletes. Proud to know and work with Ryan. 2021 will happen for him!!!
I truly hope so!
“In Deep S**t” would be a good title for his past shenanigans lol
Geez, on the scale of things today, his past issues wouldn’t even be the lead story on the sports page for more than 24 hours. Timing is everything. Karma’s a bitch, as Matt Lauer and Billy Bush — two in the media that really pushed the “Lochte as ugly American” story in Rio day after day found out.
JEAH!
A few ideas for spin offs:
What Could Ryan Lochte Do?
What Should Ryan Lochte Do?
One letter different. Could go several different ways
Two letters
Quarantined so long, I can’t spell or count anymore…
Not the smartest member of the swimming tribe , but ……………
1:54.00 200 IM WR
Makes him the greatest ever in that event …….
Can he come back , we hope so , think not …….but what do we know .
He has the record, but Phelps has the fourpeat at the Olympics, while Lochte was either 2nd, 3rd, or 5th.
Trying to double off the 200 back in London after absolutely breaking Phelps in the 400 IM wasn’t a picnic. Might have been a different story without the 200 back.
He isn’t the greatest 200 IM swimmer ever. Some guy beat him 4 Olympics in a row.
By your logic Biedermann is the greatest 400 Free swimmer ever.
I dont remember Bierdermann winning 4 WC in a row. Two of them breaking the WR
The other guy said having the WR makes him the best ever. I was pointing out that there is more to it than that.
I think Lochte is a fantastic swimmer and one of the best ever but I don’t think he is the best 2IM swimmer ever because he got beat 4 Olympics running by Phelps and didn’t medal in Rio. Phelps did something that has never been done before and won the same swimming event four Olympics running.
I just think people have a short memory. Lochte was the best in the world for a long time – between 2009 and 2015 with the exception of a very important meet in 2012 but before that from 2003-2008 Phelps… Read more »
Phelps is the best 200IM no doubt. His 4 olympic titles speak for themselves. I only found absurd comparing Paul Biedermann with Lochte.
Remember Townley Haas’ senior NCAA meet? He went out like an absolute demon in the 500 free, hung on for dear life to get an American record, and then seemed to be hurting for the whole rest of the meet?
Well, look at Lochte’s pacing in the 400 IM in London.
Also, as Ol’ Longhorn mentioned, trying to do the 200 back-200 IM double likely cost him a gold in the IM.
Yet when Phelps swam a loaded schedule in Beijing, he went 1:54.23 in record time for the Gold. Phelps had to bounce from semifinal to final in 08. He went 4:07 in the the prelims of the 400 IM, 1:46 in the 200 free before the 4×100 relay. He went 1:53 in the 200 fly for prelims and the semis before the 1:42 200 free. By the time he got to the 200 IM he was wasted and still went a time only .2 off the current world record.
Both swimmers are legends, but you have to hand it to Phelps for the best 200 IMer when it comes to greatness and longevity.
Best 200 LCM IMer at OGs. Not best 200 IM swim ever or best 200 IMer over all courses (SCY, SCM, LCM). That would be Lochte by a mile..
Lochte still holds the 200 & 400 IM WR’s in short course …..
Didn’t Seto break the 400 IM in Vegas ?
All of us fall short in some aspects of character, personality, attributes, etc. Whatever Ryan may lack he definitely makes up for it in heart and compassion. I don’t think that can be debated.
Agreed. He is a great guy. He has a habit of doing dumb stuff at the wrong moment but that makes him more liekable in a way. For example: drinking tap water in Beijing and blowing the silver medals in both IMs.
or his Green Shoes + the Silver Grills
He is a swimming icon for sure. He has backed it up throughout his career. And he is funny as can be…I hope he makes it and goes out on top…he has given a lot of positive feedback to our sport…made some mistakes like everyone has as well. Right on!!!
