2020 Turkish National Champ Yigit Aslan Chooses Wisconsin for 2021

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Turkish distance swimmer Yigit Aslan has verbally committed to the Wisconsin Badgers for 2021.

I am incredibly excited to announce my verbal commitment that I will be continuing my academic and swimming career at University of Wisconsin-Madison. I look forward to working with amazing teammates and coaches. I would like to thank all my friends, family and coaches for supporting me. I can’t wait to be a Badger!

TOP TIMES (LCM / SCY conv.)

  • 100 free – 52.45 / 45.81
  • 200 free – 1:53.50 / 1:39.36
  • 400 free – 3:53.65 / 4:21.79
  • 800 free – 7:58.83 / 8:56.50
  • 1500 free – 15:19.00 / 15:00.98

At the 2019 European Junior Championships last summer, Aslan finished 11th in the 800 and 15th in the mile. He then won the Turkish SC Nationals title in the 800 free a month later, following that up with an 18th place finish in the 800 at the 2019 World Junior Champs. In March, Aslan won the mile and touched second in the 800 at the 2020 Turkish Nationals.

With his converted times, Aslan would’ve finished eighth in the mile and made the 500 free B-final at the 2020 B1G Championships where Wisconsin placed fourth as a team.

Wisconsin only had one 500 freestyler under 4:20 (Cam Tysoe at 4:17.36) and didn’t have any milers break 15 minutes last season. Rising junior Matthew Hillmer was Wisconsin’s top miler last year at 15:00.25. That said, Josh Dannhauser, a 4:16/14:52 distance specialist and two-time NCAA qualifier is transferring in this coming season from Auburn, and Jake DiMartile (4:23) and Jude Williams (4:21/15:07) will bolster the D-group as part of the class of 2024.

Aslan joins sprinter Nico Butera and breaststroker Matthew Segal in Wisconsin’s class of 2025.
