Futures Qualifier Michael Iacobelli Sends Verbal to Boston University for 2021

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Michael Iacobelli of Emmaus, PA has verbally announced his decision to swim at Boston University beginning in the 2021-2022 season. Iacobelli swims year-round for Emmaus Aquatic Club, and he is a rising senior at Emmaus High School.

“I am excited to announce my commitment to Boston University to continue my academic and athletic careers! HUGE thank you’s go out to my family, friends, teammates, and coaches for pushing me and believing in me every step of the way. I can’t wait to be a terrier!! #BUSD2025 #goterriers

This certainly was not a normal recruiting process, as many visits were halted and meetings were restricted to zoom. Through many zoom socials with BU’s team and coaches, I knew it would be the place for me. When I had the opportunity to visit the campus, it solidified my decision even more. I am incredibly blessed to be able to swim Division 1 in the NCAA.”

In February, the Emmaus High School junior swam at the Pennsylvania District XI AAA Championships. His 100 breast time of 59.64 earned him a silver medal, touching 0.95 seconds behind Shawn Kushner of Parkland Senior. He later took the title in the 200 IM (1:55:05), powering to the wall 1.21 seconds ahead of Parkland Senior’s James Zhang. He swam the breaststroke leg of Emmaus’ 200 medley relay which won the event by 3.7 seconds, and was a member of the 400 free relay that took first place by 6.4 seconds.

In mid-March, Iacobelli competed at the state meet in the 200 IM and the 200 medley relay. He qualified for the B-final in the 200 IM, going a 1:55.19 in finals to finish 12th. Emmaus earned a spot in the A-final for the 200 medley relay, touching 8th.

Iacobelli has qualified for the state meet every year since his freshman year, has been awarded All-State multiple times, and was All-American this season for the 200 medley relay.

He has earned USA Swimming Futures Championship cuts in the 100 and 200 breast, the 100 back, and the 400 IM.

Top SCY Times:

  • 200 IM – 1:53.44
  • 400 IM – 4:06.83
  • 100 breast – 58.56
  • 200 breast – 2:07.15
  • 100 fly – 51.45

Iacobelli will join the Boston University men’s swimming and diving program in the fall of 2021. His 200 IM time would have made him the team’s third-fastest swimmer last season, behind Kyle Falkstrom and Benjamin Brewer. Thomas Hagerty won Boston University’s only medal at the Patriot League Championships, placing 3rd in the 1650 free. The Terriers placed 5th at the Patriot League Championships.

Academically, Iacobelli will pursue a degree in Political Science at Boston University.
