Williston Sea Lions Tab Cameron Elmer as New Head Coach

The Williston Sea Lions (WSL), a club team located in North Dakota, have announced the hiring of their new head coach, Cameron Elmer. Elmer will take over for Karen Guglich, who has lead the team over the past 10 years.

Elmer was an age group standout during his childhood in Louisiana. By the time he was 13 he had won age-group state championship titles on six separate occasions. He had also set two separate age-group state records in the 50 free and 50 fly. A Zones champion in the 50 and 100 breast as a 12-year-old, he held the second-fastest 100 breast time in the country for his age group at the time. A 4-year varsity high school letter winner in football, he would go on to play football on an academic scholarship at Nicholls State University, an NCAA Division 1 school located in Louisianna.

“I  am ecstatic to have been chosen for this opportunity to continue developing swimmers who can achieve anything they set their minds to.”

Elmer will be a part of a gradual transmission as his predecessor, Karen Gugrich, leaves the program. Guglich, who leaves the team as the winningest coach in the program’s history, has contributed to nearly tripling the team’s roster during her tenure. A life long swimmer, she was a founding member of the Gordon College Swimming and Diving team as a college athlete. During her time with the Williston Sea Lions, she has helped coach, among other notable athletic accomplishments, 42 state qualifiers and 5 state champions.

Elmer’s day job is as an account manager for oilfield services giant Schulmberger, and he moved to the area to work as part of the Bakken oil field development.
