DURHAM, N.C. – Duke swimming and diving head coach Dan Colella announced the election of six team captains for the upcoming 2020-21 season. The six elected captains are seniors Ellie Winslow and Carly Perri and junior Lucy Callard on the women’s side and junior Colson Zucker and sophomores Coleman Kredich and Nick Talati for the men.

“We feel incredibly excited about the team’s choices for captains this year,” Colella said. “It is a group that is genuinely concerned about advancing our program’s culture and success. They are being tried in a lot of ways to make this unusual COVID-19 year be one of the best in school history and they are off to a great start.”

Typically elected in the spring, this season’s captains were elected in the fall as the team trains for the upcoming season.

Meet the Captains:

Lucy Callard enters her junior season in which she competed in three events at the ACC Championships. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Callard holds top-10 times in program history in the 500-, 1,000- and 1,650-yard freestyle events. Her 16:34.20 in the 1,650 ranks third in school lore. Last season, she sported two second-place finishes throughout her junior season, one in the 1,000 freestyle in Duke’s season-opener at Florida State and the other in the 500 freestyle at Harvard. In addition to her success in the pool, Callard is a three-time ACC Academic Honor Roll recipient.

Carly Perri will wrap up her collegiate career serving as a captain. Perri has two times that appear in the all-time program top-10 lists, currently sitting seventh in the 200 freestyle and sixth in the 200 butterfly. The Fountain Valley, Calif., native placed in two events at the Bulldog Last Chance Meet and competed in two finals at the midseason NC State GAC Invitational. Perri closed out the year with CSCAA Scholar All-America Honorable Mention honors.

Ellie Winslow enjoyed a successful junior season on the boards for Duke. The Upper Arlington, Ohio, native qualified for the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships in all three events after competing in all three at the ACC Championships. As a junior, Winslow broke into the all-time top-10 in the three-meter and platform. She was awarded the Blue Devil Award at the end of year banquet last spring for exemplary character of a Duke student-athlete. Throughout her career, Winslow is also a two-time CSCAA Scholar All-America Honorable Mention selection.

Coleman Kredich enters his sophomore season after representing Duke in three events at the ACC Championships. In those events, the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle, Kredich swam career-best times in all three at the conference meet. Kredich not only enjoyed success individually, but also on the relay scene as he was the third leg in the 400 freestyle relay that set the Taishoff Aquatics Pavilion record (2:57.33) on Duke’s senior day last season. A native of Knoxville, Tenn., Kredich also earned ACC Academic Honor Roll honors.

Nick Talati capped off his rookie season in a strong fashion, swimming career-best times in the 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly and 200 individual medley at the 2020 ACC Championships. His time of 1:47.25 in the 200 butterfly placed fourth in program history. A native of Yorktown, Va., Talati reached three finals at the NC State GAC Invitational in November. He opened his collegiate career with a second-place finish in the 200 butterfly at Florida State. In addition, Talati was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll.

Colson Zucker will serve as the lone upperclassman captain for the men’s side as he enters his junior year. A native of Mooresville, N.C., Zucker swam a 53.89 in the 100 breaststroke preliminaries at the 2020 ACC Championships to earn his first finals appearance at the conference meet and break into the all-time top-10 charts in program history. Zucker started his sophomore season off strong, stringing together three consecutive top-three finishes in the 100 breaststroke to open the season. In addition, Zucker closed out his sophomore campaign with CSCAA Scholar All-America Honorable Mention honors.

Duke continues to train as it awaits the announcement of its 2020-21 schedule.
