17-year olds Gretchen Walsh and Evan Petty were the headliners of the 2020 Nashville Aquatic Club Rocktober Fest meet this weekend, with Petty swimming a pair of new lifetime bests.

First, in the men’s 100 free, he swam a full-race time of 56.44, but that race was swum for the 50 yard split, where he stopped the clock in 20.74. That undercuts his previous best time of 20.91.

Then, in the 200 back, which is one of his two best events, Petty swam 1:46.35. That improves his best time of 1:46.97 by over half-a-second – with his previous best having been done at the Winter Junior – East Championships.

With that drop, Petty, a Cal commit, dips below the 1:46.59 that it took to qualify for the scoring B final at last year’s Pac-12 Championships.

For Walsh, there were no best times, but she was her usual fast self, swimming 52.43 in the 100 fly and 1:46.15 in the 200 free.

Other Notable Times:

  • Samuel Tiblier swam a 20.91 in the 50 yard free to shave .05 seconds off his previous best time. He’s an SMU commit, and posted a 45.90 in the 100 free.
  • FAU commit Siaka Weidenbaum shaved two tenths off his best time in the 100 fly, touching in 50.22.
  • 15-year old Spencer Nicholas swam best times of 47.67 in the 100 yard free and 4:05.56 in the 400 yard IM. The 100 free swim knocked 3 seconds off his best time, and the 400 IM knocked 19 seconds off his best time.
