Brazil completes South American Youth Championships Victory

On the third day (of four) of the South American Youth Championships Brazil collected 11 gold, six silver and two bronze bringing their medal total for the meet to 57.

That was more than good enough to secure a championship victory. Argentina finished second followed by Venezuela.

There were two championship records set during the final night of competition, the first was by Gerardo Huidobro Sigismondi of Peru in the Juvenile B 200 breaststroke. Sigismondi swam a time of  2:17.63, by breaking this record it makes him the only swimmer to hold championship records in the same event for both Juvenile A and B age categories.

The victory was also the first of the meet for Peru.

The second record of the night came in the female Juvenile A age category 100 breaststroke. 15 year old Brazilian Gabrielle Roncatto won the event in a time of 1:13.10. This performance came just 30 minutes after she claimed top spot in the 200 IM.

Brazilian Luiz Altamir Mello won his third gold of the competition in boys Juvenile B 400 free in a time of 3:57.65. He won the 200 freestyle and 200 butterfly earlier in the meet.

While 13 year old Beatriz Silva was impressive in winning in girls Juvenil A 200 back in a time of 2:27.22.
