How are the teams selected? Do they have the same budgets. Can not understand why some teams have much better swimmers in their squads
In season 1, there was a budget and salary cap, but the way that the money was structured, the ‘salary’ was overshadowed by the money you could make by being on a good team. In year 2, once the plan changed to ‘everyone gets paid the same,’ it was essentially a free for all.
One thing to keep in mind is that before this became a full ‘league,’ back in 2018, there was that planned single-meet event that was going to use a similar format to this. It’s not a coincidence that 3 of the 4 GMs of teams in the finals (Lenny K, Jason L, James G) were participating in that. I’m not sure if Rob from London was… Read more »
But then if you have varied salaries, you wont get team loyalty… Yzerman…Lemieux…Sakic…that play their whole careers with one team wont happen anymore…so thats the downside to that. A system has to be put to prevent both extremes from happening…
Very true with regards to the last paragraph but that extended internationally. It was no secret that the most successful teams in ISL 1 were those that bonded the best. Hence we saw Energy retain their key talent and this was true with Roar keeping the likes of Pickrem/Guido/Prigoda ….. and would’ve been the case with their key Australians before Swim AUS employed the baseball bat.
I certainly hope these checks ARE paid but with the reports of key contractors being bilked, let alone swimmer retainers not being paid; one cannot be completely confident. Having wealthy benefactors for a team let alone a sporting competition is often welcome but its often a poisoned chalice when said benefactor proves to… Read more »
With this info / these numbers… what makes a swimmer stay at Aqua?? or DC?? ETC ETC
Why do you think Haughey transferred from DC to ENS this season?
Excatly…. they need to do something… or just have a team league, ENS vs CAC only every season 100 swimmers vs 100 swimmers
2-team league**
Wow Cali Condors got almost 10x the pay of Aqua Centurions!
Thats why this is no fun… the teams should be more equal!
Could exist rules like each time just can have 2 top 3 athletes in world rankings 4 athletes top 10 in the world, 4 top 20 , etc etc
And that would allow more strategic plans to recrute ppl, and more material for the fans to discuss
LiveWire must like those numbers
Have the swimmers try too cash the checks? If any have received them YET
