Mike Bottom leads Michigan into a one day dual for an NCAA Title

With one day to go, Mike Bottom has the men from Michigan up 34.5 points on the defending champs from Cal. They’re in a position that not many outside of Ann Arbor imagined they’d be in. Not at the beginning of the season, not after their monster mid season meet, and not even after B1G 10s where they made themselves the favorites here at NCAAs, according to the psyche sheet. Bottom seems to have embraced this underdog role, despite the fact that his kids have swum lights out all through the entire season, including the first two days at NCAAs. In his 5th year with the Michigan men, he has the Wolverines one day away from their 2nd team title in the last 52 years (12th overall, the last one with Urbanchek in 1995).

Despite what he says in this interview, he’s got to be pretty pumped right now.

I did send my child there and it has been a great experience. Not fast enough to be at the NCAA’s, but still feels an integral part of the team. Kudo’s to Coaches Bottom, White, Hill & the whole staff for their coaching and team building. Go Blue!!!

Very fine coach, but he’s looking more and more like my Aunt Betty each year. If the Wolverines win, they should shave his head.
