Michael Phelps, the greatest Olympian of all-time, pitches Sol Republic…and we, swimming fans worldwide, are the beneficiaries.
Phelps is funny. In interviews…not so much, though all of our interviews are post race. In private settings, he’s funny. Period.
Sol Republic tapping Phelps for this web commercial works on many levels…for me. It’s the kind of nonsense I appreciate; throwing cake at the dummy, the brightly colored teeny weeny man-bikini, the race against Aoki in the rubber raft (any race with Phelps works), and the joyful jump-back freeze-frame. I only wish Coach Bob Bowman could’ve been in the video…somewhere, maybe yelling at Phelps to pick it up in the race?
So, the Sol Republic pitch gets four stars in my book. If it’s not for you…sorry, but we’re always looking for anything that can entertain for two minutes. Where’s the next big thing, funny thing, the next Harlem Shake?
Side note: After endless Men’s NCAA coverage, we decided to mix things up with a Joao de Lucca Dubstep. If you or your swim team can duplicate, please do. We’ll post on swimswam and tag you in a tweet.
