“Any team, anywhere”, in my humble state there are three different summer league orgs ranging from all swimmers (including Jr Nat level), to can’t be swimming both summer and club at the same time to no club swimming in the last year.

Personal opinion is once you go club, leave summer swimming to the newbies and rec level. How many blue ribbons does one ten year old need?

Respectfully, I must disagree with your opinion that club swimmers should not compete in summer rec league.

One of USA swimming’s stated missions is to “grow the sport”. Summer rec league is the on-ramp to competitive swimming for many (most?) swimmers, and the best way to grow the sport, is to embrace rec league as the transition from swim lessons to competitive swim To the degree that USA swimming clubs look down their noses at rec league, they are missing their most important marketing opportunity to show athletes and parents what the next level looks like.

I agree that it would be nice to see just the summer league kids swim as their times are not even listed with USA swim. Any national ranking would be fun to see.

The summer program in our county has some pretty strict rules regarding off season practice (like none in January or February, 15 hours total in March, team practice no sooner than April 1st). Even still, the county rec championships have had some pretty fast swimmers. Here are the freestyle records:

Girls
9-10 50Y 26.34
11-12 50Y 24.36
13-14 50Y 23.96
15-18 100Y 52.95

Boys
9-10 50Y 26.19
11-12 50Y 23.57
13-14 50Y 21.46
15-18 100Y 44.99
