UC San Diego Water Polo Hosts UC Santa Barbara for a Pair of Games

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The No. 10 UC San Diego women’s water polo team will wrap up a home stand at Canyonview Aquatic Center with a pair of games against Big West foe No. 12 UC Santa Barbara.

Per the current COVID-19 guidelines set by the state of California, the County of San Diego and the Big West Conference, fans are not permitted to attend home games at Canyonview Aquatic Center. For more information on UC San Diego ticket policies, visit UCSDTritons.com/tickets.

COVERING THE TRITONS
Media members wishing to cover a UC San Diego game in-person at Canyonview Aquatic Center this season must notify a member of the Athletics Communication staff no later than 24 hours before start of a contest. All media members will need to complete a UC San Diego symptom screening form on the day of game prior to arriving on campus.

LAST TIME OUT
The Tritons won the Harper Cup for the fifth time in a row after defeating cross town rival San Diego State 10-7 at Canyonview Aquatic Center on March 21. Bennett Bugelli was named the MVP after recording 13 saves, one steal and scoring her first career goal. She defended her MVP status from the last Harper Cup which took place in 2019.

BIG WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Arroyo was named Big West player of the week on March 17 after scoring seven goals in the Triton’s two games against Hawaii. Previously, Bugelli was named Big West Player of the Week on February 24.

USE CREDIT UNION TRITON ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Bennett Bugelli was named the USE Credit Union Athlete of the Week on March 22 after her MVP performance in the Harper Cup. Previously, Arroyo was also named the Triton Athlete of the Week on March 15 and Ciara Franke earned the honor on March 1.

2020 BIG WEST SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Franke was named UC San Diego’s 2020 Big West Female Scholar-Athlete of the year. Each institution is awarded one male and female award winner. The award acknowledges their accomplishments on the field, in the classroom, and in their communities.

SIZING UP THE GAUCHOS
The Gauchos are 3-3 on the season and 1-0 in conference action. UC Santa Barbara defeated UC Davis on March 21 to start conference undefeated. The Tritons played the Gauchos twice in 2020. UC San Diego picked up the 11-7 win in the Triton Invite but fell 9-8 weeks later in the Barbara Kalbus Invite.

TRITON TIES
UC Santa Barbara Assistant Coach Emma Sasson was a four-year letter winner for the Tritons and served as a team captain in 2015 and 2016.

The Tritons have four players on their current roster that grew up or played high school water polo in Santa Barbara: Kayla PeacockGeorgia RansoneJessee Ransone and Chloe Pena.

100 GOALS CLUB
Grace Pevehouse (152) and Ciara Franke (132) have scored over 100 goals in their careers. Next closest player is Jessee Ransone with 65.

RECORD WATCH

With 536 career saves, Bennett Bugelli ranks ninth all time. Currently, Kaitlin Foe ranks eighth with 634 saves.

HEAD COACH BRAD KREUTZKAMP
Kreutzkamp is in his 12th season as Head Coach of the women’s team. He has a career record of 240-165. With six more wins, he will overtake Denny Harper as winningest coach in program history.
