Kiernan Schumacher is staying local with his commitment to the University of Chicago. Schumacher is a senior at Brother Rice and trains with the Chicago Wolfpack Aquatic Club.
I am excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and swimming careers at the University of Chicago. I would like to thank my teachers, coaches, peers, and most especially my parents for all the support and guidance in getting me to this point. Go Maroons!

Schumacher is a pure sprinter specializing in freestyle. For Brother Rice, Schumacher was an IHSA State Qualifier in the 50 and 100 free as a sophomore in 2019 and junior in 2020– there was no state meet this year due to the pandemic.
The 2020-21 Illinois high school season was truncated, and for most teams, it ended with the conference championships. At the 2021 MCAC Championships, Schumacher clocked his current lifetime bests in the 50 and 100 free.
At the 2020 UAA Championships, Schumacher would’ve been a B-finalist in the 50 free, while he would’ve been just off of the C-final in the 100 free. Last season, he would’ve ranked fifth on the roster in the 50 free and sixth in the 100.
Schumacher joins Robert Quan, Tommy Hughson and Zenin Miller in UChicago’s incoming class.
