MISCA Releases 2020-2021 Boys “Dream Team”; Ethan Saunders Makes 3 Events

The Michigan Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (MISCA) has announced its annual “Dream Team” for the 2020-2021 boys high school season. The “Dream Team” is put together based off the fastest swimmer in each event throughout all the MHSAA divisions each season. A swimmer can only be on the team in one individual event, but they can also make the team in multiple relays.

Here is the full 2020-2021 “Dream Team”:

  • 50 Free: Jacob Ryan (Detroit Day County) – 20.58
  • 100 Free: Ethan Saunders (Saline) – 44.64
  • 200 Free: Conner Halbert (Northville) – 1:38.87
  • 500 Free: Jonas Cantrell (Mason) – 4:27.58
  • 100 Back: Drew Collins (University of Detroit Jesuit) – 49.18
  • 100 Breast: Matthew Segal (Ann Arbor Pioneer) – 53.26
  • 100 Fly: Tyler Ray (Pinckney) – 49.23

  • 400 Free Relay: Saline (Ethan Saunders, Cooper Osgood, Blake Coy, Matt Adanin) – 3:03.84

The swimmer who shows up most often on this year’s team is Saline’s Ethan Saunders, who is the 100 free representative, and on the 200 medley and 400 free relays. Saunders was electric at the MHSAA DI Championships, winning the 100 free in 44.64. He also anchored the 200 medley in 19.93, and led the 400 free relay off in 45.13. Saunders competes for Club Wolverine, and is a Xavier recruit.

Matthew Segal, an Ann Arbor Pioneer senior and Club Wolverine swimmer, led the Dream Team with the highest-ranking swim using USA Swimming’s Power Points system. Segal’s 100 breast time of 53.26 was a personal best, and worth 968 points. Segal is set to begin swimming at Wisconsin in the fall.
