Tuesday was a good day to be on the campus of the University of Virginia. The school celebrated the Women’s Swimming & Diving team winning their first NCAA title. This marks UVA’s 28th overall NCAA team title.
Joining in the celebration were President Jim Ryan and Athletic Director Carla G. Williams. Both Ryan and Williams took the ceremonious jump into the pool in full professional attire. This was a new experience for Ryan as he posted on Twitter “Apparently, this is how one celebrates an NCAA Swimming and Diving National Championship.” Ryan showed good form as he cannonballed into the pool.
Apparently, this is how one celebrates an NCAA Swimming and Diving National Championship — and I wouldn’t have it any other way, @ADWilliamsUVA. Congrats, again! #WeWinWeSwim @UVASwimDive pic.twitter.com/w3H9aisMeE

Williams followed with a cannonball of her own. Williams, a former D1 basketball player at Georgia, showed her athletic skill as she used a hurdle and well-timed arm swing to leap into the pool; her form should get approval from the UVA divers.
In a Twitter post of her own, AD Williams recognized the “competitive fire and determination from these ladies and staff.”
The Virginia women should be the front-runners to win their second title next year as they will be returning 240 points. With a recruiting class highlighted by the #1 ranked woman recruit Gretchen Walsh, Ryan and Williams might get used to these wet celebrations.

That would never happen at the University where I work. First they eliminated the swim team, a few years later, they eliminated the campus pool. All respect for UVA.
How cool to see the UVA president and AD showing support for the team!
It’s great they came to congratulate and spend time with the team but even better to show they are good sports and were willing to join in the fun of a celebration!
“Apparently, this is how one celebrates” says a guy who does not watch NCAA swimming…
^ says a person that doesn’t know President Ryan. He watches swimming but has a sense of humor.
So great to see the President and AD celebrate like this. We have the best President and AD in the country in addition to the best women’s swimming program!!
WahooWah!!!
