Massachusetts Freestyler Megan Campbell Chooses Canisius College (D1)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Megan Campbell of Plainville, MA has committed to Canisius College for the class of 2025, where she will remain in the colder climates via relocation to Buffalo, NY. She attends King Philip Regional High School, where she is a current senior, and swims for the Hockomock Area YMCA.

When I went on a tour it felt like the school had so much to offer and the Team during Zooms were so supportive of each other. Combined with family nearby made it feel like a home.

During the 19-20 high school season, Campbell represented King Philip Regional at the Massachusetts Division I State Championships, where she swam the 200 and 500 free, placing 14th and 8th. She also anchored both the 200 and 400 free relay with a 25.6 and a 57.6, respectively. She is a three-time state finalist in both events and has been awarded her high school’s Team MVP award twice for her efforts.

Campbell’s personal bests in the sprint events are very recent, coming from a local meet in late March of 2021. There, she had a major breakthrough in the 100 free, slicing almost a second off her previous best time from over two years ago to go 56.16. In the 50, she had a similar drop, going sub-26 on a flat start for the first time. She accomplished this feat twice at this meet, both in the individual event (25.90) and in the leadoff on Hockomock’s 200 free relay (25.61).

Top Times SCY:

  • 50 Free- 25.61 (relay leadoff)
  • 100 Free- 56.16
  • 200 Free- 2:00.88
  • 500 Free- 5:19.97

At the 2020 MAAC Championships, Canisius placed 4th out of 11 teams in a competitive team race, where the top three were separated by just 40 points. Canisius was locked in a placement battle with Rider University, with Canisius coming out ahead by just 14 points. They are an NCAA Division I Mid-Major school.

While Campbell is just outside of scoring in her primary freestyle events based on the 2020 conference results, she will be joining a deep, upperclassmen-heavy sprint group, giving her both experienced training partners and an opportunity to rise in the ranks when these upperclassmen graduate. However, six non-seniors will be sub-26 in the 50, and four sub-56 in the 100 when Campbell arrives on campus, and there is an extra year of eligibility up for grabs, which might deepen this team further if seniors decide to take the additional year.

Outside of swimming, Campbell is also involved in King Philip Regional’s National Honor Society and National English Honor Society.
