Summer Juniors Qualifier Lockett Bowley Verbally Commits to Alabama (2022)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

High school junior Lockett Bowley, a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Winter Park, Florida, has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Alabama for the class of 2026.

“I am extremely honored and excited to officially announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic endeavors! Thank you to all of my coaches and especially Coach Joe! I’m forever grateful for the love and support of my family, friends and teammates! Also, thank you to Coach Ozzie for the opportunity and I’m thrilled to be a part of the Bama Family!””

Bowley and her Winter Park High School teammates won the 4×50 free relay at the 2020 Florida High School 4A State Championships in November. In 3rd place before the final exchange, Bowley rocked a 23.50 anchor to move them to 1st over the final 50 yards. She also anchored the 4×100 free relay to a 2nd-place finish (50.33 4th split). Individually, she swam the 100/200 free and finished 5th in both (51.10/1:50.29).

Bowley does her club swimming with Blue Dolfins. She has good depth across a range of events and distances, with Summer Juniors qualifying times in the 200 fly, Winter Juniors cuts in the 100/200 free, and Futures cuts in the 50 free, 100 fly, 200 IM, and 400 IM. After high school season, when she improved her lifetime bests in the 50 free and 200 free at Regionals, Bowley competed at 2002 U.S. Open in Sarasota and scored a new PB in the 100m fly (1:03.06). She wrapped up the year at 2020 Florida Virtual Championships where she improved her SCY times in the 100 breast and 100 fly placing 10th in the former and 11th in the latter.

At last month’s Florida Swimming Spring Senior Championships, she was an A finalist in the 100 free (4th), 100 fly (8th), 200 fly (2nd) and 400 IM (4th). She was 9th in the 200 IM. Bowley left the meet with PBs in the 100 free, 200 fly, and 200/400 IM. The next day she time trialed the 50m free and went a lifetime-best 27.55.

  • 50 free – 23.88
  • 100 free – 50.64
  • 200 free – 1:49.07
  • 100 fly – 56.20
  • 200 fly – 1:59.06
  • 200 IM – 2:06.12
  • 400 IM – 4:28.65
  • 100 breast – 1:07.84

Bowley will suit up for the Crimson Tide with future classmates Alison Thome, Ana Fleming, Kylee Grafmiller, Laci Black, Mackenzie Brandt, and Stella Grace Watts. Alabama placed 4th at the 2021 SEC Women’s Championships, winning three of the five relays (200 medley, 200 free, and 400 free). Bowley’s best times would have scored in the C final of the 200 fly (it took 54.12 to make it back in the 100 fly). She will overlap with Gracie Felner, the Tide’s top returning butterflyer, and sprint freestyler Cora Dupre.
