Fast-Improving Wes Tate Commits to Army West Point (2021)

Prime Aquatics’ Wes Tate has committed to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point for this coming fall. He’s a senior at Maryville High School in Tennessee.

Tate specializes in mid-distance freestyle, with the 200 free and 500 free his best events right now.

Since the pandemic hit, Tate has made significant time drops. As of March 2020, his lifetime bests in the 100/200/500 free were 49.41/1:44.61/4:41.10, so he’s taken over five seconds off of his 500, almost four off of his 200 and almost two off of his 100. His bests in those three events all came at the Southeastern LSC Championships in February.

This season, which is concluding with the rescheduled Patriot League Championships in a couple weeks, Tate would rank fifth in the 200 free and fourth in the 500 free on Army’s roster. At the 2020 Patriots, it took a 1:40.28 in the 200 and a 4:33.68 in the 500 to make it back in B-finals, marks that Tate is closing in on.

Army West Point has also received commitments from Andrew Wang, Ian Shahan, James Don, Owen Harlow, Ryan Durkan and George Glover for the class of 2025.
