Just in time for Mother’s Day, Buoyant: How Water and Willpower Helped Wella to Channel Aaron and Hayley Peirsol is being released as an ebook.

Wella Hartig—mother of seven-time Olympic medalist Aaron Peirsol and his world-ranked sister Hayley—has collaborated with Austin writer Laura Cottam Sajbel to share her story of raising these two remarkable athletes.

Wella discovered as a young adult that intense physical exertion gave her the focus and confidence to face overwhelming challenges.  Instinctively, she shepherded her children into sports, as well.

Though Wella has made mistakes along the way, as all parents do, she embodies resilience and a sense of purpose.  In Buoyant, she gives seasoned and helpful advice, as someone who has parented children from single-mother welfare circumstances to world-prominence in swimming. Her story is bolstered by new neuroscience research that corroborates her belief in the power of exercise.

Says Wella, of writing Buoyant:

“This is a book like I wished I had had to guide me as a young mother.  I wanted to tell my story to help other moms who might be facing single parenthood or financial troubles or who might have kids bursting with energy or talent—to reassure those moms that they can bring up their children successfully.”

Loved this book for its refreshing emphasis on humility and advising parents to stay out of the way. We have a sign at home that says, “Work hard and be nice.” The rest will fall into place. Great job, Wella.

Well, Orange County is expensive and worst today. So, I know how hard it could be for a single mom. to rise a kid there. I liked Aaron’s mom when I saw her at the Greece Olympics. Also, is that Disneyworld or Disneyland. The family lived only 15 miles from Disneyland in Anaheim. Maybe, they went to Disneyworld in Florida.

That was taken at Disney World in Florida, when the family lived there for a time.
