NAG Relay Record-holder Tommy Park Verbally Commits to Yale (2022)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Tommy Park from La Crescenta, California has verbally committed to the admission process at Yale University. He will join the Bulldogs in 2022-23 with Finn Henry, Jack Maketa, Lucius Brown, and Nareg Minassian.

“I am grateful to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process at Yale University! I look forward to joining Yale’s leading swim program and am thankful for the opportunity to attend a world-class academic institution. I would like to thank everyone who supported me throughout this journey and got me to where I am. Go Bulldogs!!!”

Park, a junior at Harvard-Westlake School, competed as a freshman at 2019 CIF Southern Section Division 1 Championships where he placed 2nd in the 200 IM (1:48.70) and 11th in the 100 fly (50.03). He also led off Harvard-Westlake’s runner-up 200 medley relay (23.19) and contributed a leg (46.20) to the 3rd-place 400 free relay.

Park currently swims for Rose Bowl Aquatics and was a member of the 17-18 400 mixed medley relay squad that broke the NAG record earlier this month. Nearly all his best times come from when he was with Swim Pasadena, a team whose pool was shut down due to the pandemic. Notably, he achieved his 100 back and 200 IM times, for which he was noted in the “Best of the Rest” section of our Way Too Early List of high school recruits from the class of 2022, came from 2019 Winter Juniors West. There, he placed 7th in the 100 back (48.56) and 18th in the 200 IM (1:48.44) and was 34th in the 200 back (1:48.64), 40th in the 200 breast (2:03.40), and 74th in the 100 fly (49.79) in prelims. In the fall of 2019, he notched PBs in the 50 free (22.36), 100 free (46.66), and 200 back (1:46.48). And during the 2019 spring high school season, he clocked best times in the 50 back (23.07) and 100 fly (49.73). Since moving to Rose Bowl, he has added PBs in the 100/200 breast (58.22/2:01.25).

*Note: A verbal commitment between an Ivy League coach and a prospective student-athlete is not an offer of admission, as only the Admission Office has that authority. The coach can only commit his or her support in the admission process. Ivy League Admission Offices do not issue “Likely Letters” before October 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s senior year of high school. The Likely Letter, while issued after an initial read of the student’s application, is not an offer of admission to the university.

If you have a commitment to report, please send an email with a photo (landscape, or horizontal, looks best) and a quote to [email protected].
